So why is it pathetic to be happy that one no longer has to pay wages and per diems of directors of a board that one did not want to belong to?

Royal Assent is Given to Bill C18 Which Ends the CWB Single Desk

After an extremely hard fought battle on how Western Canadian farmers should be able to market their own wheat the single desk is finished. Royal assent has been given to Bill C18 by the Governor General. Some people are speculating that this issue will end up in the Supreme Court but for now many Western Canadian farmers are celebrating.

According to Henry Vos (former CWB director),

“As of tomorrow the mandate of the Canadian Wheat Board completely changes with a new Chairman, new governance model, new communications plan, staff decisions and more.”

To think that Bob Rae, Alan Oberg, Wayne Easter, and Alex Atamanenko could prevent Western Canadian farmers from marketing their own wheat will truly be looked upon in the history books as amusing and comical.

When asked what Vos thought of the impact on Western Canadian farmers Vos said,

“Its a happy day for farmers. We are finally done with the crazy eight.”

I hope it is just a letter of dissmissal not any monentary value for service or disservice. I think we farmers should get the stress checks this time and the crazy 8 a bill for all the harm they have caused...

One question that needs to be answered is have these guys voted themselves a contingent severance package? (in the event that C-18 gets passed and they are fired)

there is no severance package for retired or fired directors. Least I never got one !!
we were paid a $20,000 a year as a retainer, deposited into your bank account quarterly. As deposits were made on the start of the next quarter, and I resigned Oct 31 (the same day the deposit was made for $5,000 for Nov, Dec, Jan) I was asked to return that money to which I quickly did as naturally I was not a director anymore.
One could question if my new fellow retiree's will return the 1.5 month of retainer they have already received? I know it's not a lot of money but more an idea of respecting farmers who paid those retainers.
all directors fees, retainers and expenses are public record in the CWB annual report.
