How is the change with the cwb going to change what you grow next year?

    More wheat now?

    Fewer acres of pulses? Flax?

I am rethinking what we are growing this year.

more wheat now, around 7 dollars to lock in. are there growing problems around the world and how much is the debt problem over seas going to affect our wheat prices.

Buzz, on our farm we are going to replace some wheat acres with malt barley this year. The change to marketing system, new varieties, more fungicide choices, perceived demand for malt, and company programming are all factors in us deciding to try some malt bly.

Any prices for malt yet? I heard a Viterra employee suggest $7 for 2R malt.
That would put wheat to shame.

I will grow whet for the first time in years. I will probably do a cps red, and aim for the feed market for the local hogs. I believe with the cwb gone, hog barns will not need to just bid up to within 50 cents of the pro to get wheat. They will actually have to bid against the spot prices of milling wheat. Of course, I could also sell my cps for milling if their is good demand. I look forward to this situation to such an extent that it is making me giddy like a young boy all over again!!! I may even grow some hard red again, but well see. When I say I will grow wheat, I do not mean a whole bunch of my acres, but maybe 500 acres give or take.

I just thought of something. I need to change my name. Wheat is free! It no longer needs to be begged to be free, which is what my moniker was always about. Cool eh?

Never did think you were giving it away!
Now it might be "valuable wheat"
Would like a battle for acres with prices like corn and soy always have!

fjlip, nothing confirmed yet for prices in my area. I expect some bids this week.

Bottineau ND is an hour away by truck. Always an outlet. I've delivered there before with buybacks but would rather deal at home.

I intend to plant winter wheat in the fall of 2012. This will be the first time in 11 years. I am excited about growing winter wheat for the first time, and selling it without restriction.

If malt has a contract close to 7 we will drop 1000 wheat and switch to barley.
                  Simple barley 1000
                  HRS 3000
                  Durum 500
                  Oats 500
                  Canola 4000
                  Peas 1000
One note canola might drop if price of Durum improves by spring.
