Chiquita Brands boycott Canadian ethical oil

We should think long and hard about this... I am NEVER going to buy another Chiquita product.

"Chiquita Brands has made the decision to boycott Canadian oil sands oil-the most ethical oil in the world. This is outrageous, and as Canadians we must speak up and take a stand against this unethical boycott.

EthicalOil.org is asking all Canadians to boycott Chiquita brands until they reverse their boycott on Canada's ethical oil. We need your help spreading the word, and telling Chiquita what you think. Together, we can send a strong message and be heard. We must take action now. Here are some quick things you can do right now:

•'Like' our "Boycott Chiquita" Facebook group at:

    http://www.facebook.com/BoycottChiquita
•Visit our website: http://chiquitaconflict.com/ where it takes only 10 seconds to send your own message directly to Chiquita brands.
•Follow us on twitter: http://twitter.com/Ethical_Oil and tweet your support for Canada's ethical oil and our boycott against Chiquita. Use the hashtag #boycottchiquita
•Listen to our radio ad calling on Canadians to boycott Chiquita, and share it with your friends:

Canada's oil is the most ethical in the world. It's produced where workers enjoy the highest standards and rights, women and minorities are treated as equals, peace and democracy are promoted and environmental standards and regulations are strictly enforced.

Chiquita is a company with a terrible human rights record - just four years ago they were fined for giving money to terrorist groups in South America, and now they want to discriminate against Canadian oil?

Let's send a strong message to Chiquita!

    Thank you for taking action.

Nobody gives a rats ass about this Boycott except the alberta oil industry. The California market for bananas alone is bigger than Canada. Boycotting Chiquita products won't have any impact as they sell to numerous countries and won't be worried about the small decline in Western Canada.

We treat workers better but our environmental record in the oil sands is not great. We can do alot better. There is lots of evidence of water pollution and obvious environmental degradation. Lots of workers and Canadians are concerned about the problems but they need the work.

As an exporting nation we should be worried about our reputation. Bad news from the oil sands can hurt other exporters.

Betting our economic future on the booming oil sands is a risky venture as increasing costs and a shortage of workers keep eroding profitability. If oil prices drop significantly due to recession then all hell breaks lose.

The oil industry has almost singlehandedly kept all of Canada out of deep recession the last 2 years. You may not give a "rats a$$" about the oilsands, but it won't be good for anybody in Canada if those pushing this watermelon agenda get their way.

These boycotts are minor things. They are political cache.
But we should be trying to defend common sense, and exposing hypocrisy where we can.
Too much of the population has already swallowed the faulty storyline without looking at the science or common sense.

For those out of touch with the rest of us who's
          address is
          Smalltown, Western Canada, 0IL 4US

Municipal roads and businesses and exports are
          based on oil.

If you want to switch to windmills, and bash us
doing it, it's your choice, but you'll be hunting for
compost heaps if FB is any indication of a revolt
          by the traditionally mild mannered,

Chiquita is overripe with threats. Rotten tactics.
Dump the bastards. You see, we really dont
          need them Pars.

And add me to those demanding a different
brand in every store I enter.

High oil prices are good for producers but not for consumers. When energy prices rise, wealth is transferred to producing states including Canada, Saudia Arabia, Venezuela etc.

The problem is high energy prices cause consumers and business to have less money to spend on other things and this can reduce economic growth in non- producing regions and countries.

A small loss in demand because of high energy prices or recessions can result in rather large price declines that will make the oil sands unprofitable for awhile until either the cost of production comes down or demand goes up.

Being very dependent on the oil sands as an engine of economic growth may leave us rather vulnerable to recessions.

There has also been growth in shale gas and non-conventional oil in north america in the Bakken and other developments that will also increase the North American supply of oil.

The Oil Sands are very expensive to develop and may be uneconomic at times as we go through the ups and downs of the world economy.

Most economists see a long period of low growth or no growth coming because of many factors.

            But who the hell knows?

We're vulnerable to recession regardless of which industries represent the bulk of our economy. All industry requires energy, all consumers require energy. I'd rather have my horse hitched to the energy industry than any other, even in uncertain times.

High prices are natural and necessary. They drive R&D for producer and consumer.
To quote a Texas senator " a resource is not a resource unless it's used"
Measured solemn reflection is a good thing.
However, it is our affluence that allows us the luxury of despising the golden goose.

At least the Oilsands producers have resources and can fight a communications battle with people like Chiquita...

I am more concerned about anti agriculture groups like HSUS and others who target farming directly.

From now on, our Comedian farm family,
will buy nothing but Chiquita brand
products. This oil stupidity, run by
wild west mentals, has suffered some
setbacks lately, ie XL pipehole, now
this. More of this sort of thing is
needed ta hurt the oilies, then maybe,
just maybe sum responsible things will
be done here in Albertie. Fort mcMoney
is an embarassment to Comedia, who is
now seen as a rogain, terrorist state by
many. Global warmin (not reel), nice
Winter though here in Albertie eh!!!!!
