How much CWRS should we grow?

Correct me if I am wrong ,Last year at this time I was
at the combine to customer seminar , They said we
grew approx. 22 million tonne of CWRS ,of which 6
million tonnes were sold at a premium. That means
16 million tonnes where sold at or below market
prices. If the world is only going to Pay a premium for
only 25% of our production ,why are we growing CRSW
varieties which Yields have not increased in 20 years?
Why don't we IP 6 million acres or tonnes of Cwrs, and
get some varieties that yield.

Grow the same amount and don't deal with
the cwb. Let the people that get
premiums buy your grain. Cwrs and durum
should be treated as specialty crops.

And there are lots of pulse operators
that could provide the service. Similar
to pulses. They would make up shipments
in small lots that the cwb won't touch.

What are some high yielding wheat varieties
agrivillers like ? I'm in a black soil zone.

I like to grow 5602. If you give it what
it needs it will pay great dividends. But
miss a step and oh well.

Now on the Durum front we use to grow
about 1200 a year usually a 2 but had to
send to Moosejaw.
Now with out the CWB were not sure what
amount of Durum to grow.
Im thinking 600 partner is thinking 480
and Baby sit it.
Have seed for 2000 plus. Now funny lots
around us that havent ever grown it are
considering growing Durum. Their
Grandfathers grew it so that tells you
how long its been since most seeded it.
Probably sell seed and wait for next
year.

Sask farmer, have you tried unity, or goodeve?? or any of the varietal blends? I was thinking just cps, but I may try a bit of hrs.

And Inewguy, good question on how much we should collectively grow. I think it will sort itself out, and when we get more new varieties that actually perform like the americans have, that will partially answer the question as well maybe..

Freewheet we grew Unity on Half last
year. Came up fast looked thick then
heads came out were smaller than the
5602, Relatives to West of us saw the
same. In end Unity did yield less, Midge
damage was min but also the 5602 had min
midge damage. So tough call but the
yield difference was a bit.
Last year wasnt my best wheat year but
better than the year before.

There was a fertilizer agent /farmer who is or has
been sued by Cwb for growing or selling unregistered
varieties of wheat , How did that court case make out ?
Wonder what type of wheat it was? Maybe in a year or
so we can grow it.

We had 50 with Goodeve. Very satisfied. Archerwill area saw 60 with VB varieties. Superb yielded much less with midge damage.
So much less stress NOT to check midge in July. Spray window seems very small.
Rather be camping.

All I know is that I sure lost track of
varieties in the 7 years of not growing
hrs. It looks like they are getting closer
to cps, especially the vb varieties. More
thinking now...

We have seen 70 bus with Goodeve.
I agree with the midge thing, growing wheat is much less stressfull now.
With the more open market for all whts how do the cps red and white wheats play/pay out ?
