Will Canadian Farmland Be Going Public?

From weber's daily, ag canada has durum acres at 4,750,000 acres up 18 per cent over last year.

I would be bearish on the durum market, especially if North Dakota seeds this year.

Anyone remember the year after durum hit 12 bucks???

Yea were on the fringe of Durum country,
OK past the fringe but if you can seed
early and then kill the crop with
Roundup so its even and spray the shit
for Disease you could get a #2, Could
get a #2 but mostly a #3 and ship to
Moosejaw to blend.
Funny most neighbors must think we make
a killing because the phone is ringing
for seed. I think the Durum number is
low and if the USA grows it we will have
4 to 5 in fall and next winter. Then
some will blame me for killing the CWB.
Were dropping Durum by some 700 plus
acres. Sell seed is way better than
growing a crop.

you need to keep your restrictive land laws and keep these landgrabbers out.
a lot of farmers in the uk sold out to insurance companies in the 70,s at big money, and most have bought them back recently at LESS than they were paid.
Not good business for the big boys.

I am at that age where I wanted to buy some of that expensive land the farm corp did buy a half section but we had the money at the time. I remember the lenders lending out 100 percent of the money at the time to others. So I can also remember some farmers staying in business just because they had tooo much money borrowed. I also remember a some farmers paying high rent having trouble. I also think comparing farm land to investment in gold and saying farm land has always outdone gold is stupid. I have mixed feelings about if the large farming corps will continue to recieve large subsidies. Future does look good yet though in my opinion. Sask look at how much wealth you have amassed in the last 5 years, don't you think others would like to get some that or join in on it?

high. Buying property in Regina or
Saskatoon today is idiotic. Sorry 650000
for a house I paid 178,000 just doesnt
make it. But those that are buying all

Similar buying land in a down market
makes alot of money. Always has.
Same on grain buy low sell high.
Same for stocks etc.
Land is a ps poor investment today. Was
a steal 5 years ago.
But saying your a big farmer renting all
your land just doesnt seem right. Yea
you will put alot of cash through your
fingers but whats their in the end.
MAybe should do like a old neighbor in
80s. Sell to you sons for huge dollars.
Move out of the area and start a small
farm, as each son goes broke buy back
their land for 25 cents on dollar under
their right of refusal. Die and give
them paid for land today!

expert buying is a joke! Experts teach
farmers farm. Name one of your Profs
from the UofS that actually was great in

I just don't think we should underestimate large investors. One thing if they are still interested then that can also be a good thing. Although I would like to see them scramble to get out. The British guy said they bought back for cheaper, the investors don't always make money and I don't think they can operate as efficiently as us.

do think if some one came and offered
say. $20,000,000.00 for my farm
Buildings, Land , Mineral rights

might just decide to take a break for a
few years. Maybe play up north on a
section or two.

I do agree on the fact I feel were more
efficent. One earth is running training
this winter for farm labour. Yea I do
remember that was tried before, Good thing
govt pay for this.
