Who does the book keeping on your farm?

    Please help settle an argument.

Please say if it is done off farm as well.

    Thanks,

    W

I get mine done by a friend who is a CA. She works out of her house and does a
    good job.

I would say most are done by the wives, but they should be done by whomever
is able to do them on a timely basis.

I am a male. I do the books. ALL the
books. I enjoy it a fair bit. My wife gets
stressed when she sees the big numbers,
and big bills, and she doesn't really like
        it. Works great.

I do the books on AgExpert. My son who
is an accountant files the taxes. My
wife keeps track of some of the other
          goings on.

I used to do all the bookwork until 6 years ago. My wife has done them ever since, which is great, but I feel like I have no idea what is going on anymore.

I do the books on Ag expert. My wife use to do them and still would except that she has to ask me what most reciept are for and what category they go in. We have a CA file the tax.

Ag Expert and Field Manager since 1999, account books before that from day one. Try to discuss it all with the wife. Tax software since 1998, and E file. Taxes are almost fun, except the payments.
When one does it all, you are very informed about your finances. We found nobody understands our farm like we do.

                    Thanks everyone for your information.

We are making some changes starting fresh with the new year.

We need a little more help with the books then what we have been doing up to now.

Not a big argument, we both are too busy to keep the paperwork and accounting up to date. (Off farm work and children.)

Neither one of us really like doing it so I think we will get a friend who does books to keep them up to date and visit with us once a month to review how we are doing.

Thanks everyone for sharing how you manage.
