are the russians nervous of their wheat crop now?
These record low temperatures will play havoc without snow cover.
especially on backward , poor germinated crops.
is this whats causing the rally?

They probably keep track about as well as statscan.

Just guess until they can't fill a boat.

Rumors continue to circulate around the idea that Russia will do something to restrict grain exports in the coming months. Traders in Europe are now saying that the Russian government is expected to impose duties on grain exports in April when exports are likely to reach 23-25 mmt. This is good news for U.S. wheat exports in the future and is a large part of the reason why wheat futures are up significantly in the past couple of days.

In addition, the head of Ukraine’s agriculture meteorological department said that the country’s winter grains harvest could fall by 42-58% to 10-14 mmt. Despite some snow cover in the eastern and southern regions of the country, current levels are not enough to protect crops from the record cold. Some areas have been hit by record lows of minus 33 degrees.
