    Enbridge Pipeline

Parsley posted a message on Jan 22 saying
foreigners show not be awarded presentation time
at the hearings into Enbridge Pipeline.
Well ok - so if you ban all the foreigners, who will
be left? The National Post (no friend of the leftie
hippies), points out some interesting things about
who's paying Enbridge bills. . Sinopec, owned by
the Chinese government, is said to have supplied
about half the $100 million up-front fund to get
Northern Gateway pipeline off the ground. Other
companies in on the fund include MEG, partly
owned by the Chinese National Offhsore Oil
Corporation; Suncor, in partnership with the
Chinese; the Chinese Investment Corp, run by the
Chinese Community Party, which has a $1.25 billion
stake in Penn West, and so on. PetroChina, Beijing's
state company recently spent $1.9 billion on a
complete takeover of the MacKay River oil sands
project. And on it goes. So the Enbridge pipeline is
essentially a Chinese pipeline being being built
across Canadian soil to transport Chinese bitumen
    to China, wouldn't you say?
Those Chinese who've bought the bitumen and who
control Enbridge - they're foreigners, right? Once
they're banned, there'll be no pipeline and no
Chinese bitumen to transport, would there?

    A Corporation isn't a person, yet they
are getting just as many rights as a
person. And you don't know where the
shareholders live. And even if the
    shareholders do live close, the
management is driven solely by making
    money.
I think we need to look at what we are
giving up to allow corporations to make
money, whether they are foreign or not.
If it's not us making the money, and not
us using the energy, my threshold for
damage and risk is not as high. Why
should we take on damage and risk to
provide for others at little or no
    benefit to ourselves?

I agree totally smalltown. As days go by I am really really worried atloss of our values, sovereignty etc. We don't even know who is owning this massive takeover of farmland, companies etc. and for some reason the current government has it on a fast track without input from us. jmho but I think they know that when canadians actually realize who is gonna benefit from all this they are gonna get the boot, that is why the steamroll is in full force at top end, that is if there is enough of us real canadians left to stop this.

My thoughts of economic growth were that we were gonna make standard of living better for us canadians not bums that other countries don't want and the elite rich. The standard of living for those of us not in the oil industry is going down because costs are being driven up yet the oil industry is getting all our resources for free at our expense as well as our environment.

We really have two choices here: build
northern gateway or join Greece and France
etc. in the third world. Nothing produces
wealth faster than the oil industry.

ajl I tend to disagree. Conventional
oil and gas does produce wealth. This
unconventional stuff doesn't tend to. We
need 'full cost accounting' where we
look at the damages and reclamation too.
The models for that aren't good.

If the companies can budget that in,
still make a profit, and still pass a
fair sum on to the government in taxes
or royalties. Then let them go to it.
Right now we are making some dollars,
but it will be a negative situation if
you look to the mid or long term.

Lot's of people making money at Fort
McMurray, but lots up their with cancers
we are paying to treat too. Just saying
it all needs factored in. I certainly
don't want this stuff on my farm.

Why is it that we need years of hearings, with people having no vested interest, to build a pipeline, but we can create a new park or the PC's in Alberta can strip away property rights with no public consultation. Our system is heavily slanted toward those who contribute nothing.

Foreign capital has and will continue to be a necessity in the development of Canadian energy sector and other key industries. There has been huge money now spent through third parties by special interests from foreign countries to bash our oilsands and other energy related developments. A good portion of this money has even been traced back to the Saudi's and other OPEC states that have a vested interest in keeping the US and other markets dependent on their "blood oil".

Oils sands and new technologies to extract oil and gas from shale are the path to unlock NA's own energy independecy, IMHO.

Check this link out to see what some of our neighbors to he South, the Rockefeller Foundation no less, are doing while pumping millions into fighting Canadian energy exports.

Thanks to someone in the media for exposing this exposing this.

After all is said and done, we Comedians
are/will be left with a hell of a mess
ta clean up. Take all the revenue
earned by selling the oil and trickle
down wages, add them ta gether and it
won't even come close to the cleanup
                  bill. Athabasca river destroyed,
polluted, land left scared, poisoned and
                  baron. Multiple spills from Enbridge
                  pipeline(S).... Tanker spill off BC
                  coast. The Enbridge Tanker/Pipeline(S)
                  project and tarsands are insanity.
Butt its the Albertie gobermont is
briain child sos hands off, wes open fer
business, no money fer health care, er

so with no pipeline isn't the demand for crop produced fuel going to increase? wouldn't that mean a boom for our crop prices and vice versa should the pipeline be built and less demand on acres result?
