    Statistics reflecting historical canola prices

Agchat has an interesting post below, of course I
immediately answered with sarcasm. Then I
realized it would be more helpful to work towards
    improved marketing.
Way back in they day, I had a document that
described statistically the historical canola prices.
It showed the 20 yr. average price, then it stated
that canola price was between $4.50 -6.50 72% of
the time, $6.51-8.90 20% of the time, and $8.91-
    $10.96 4% of the time.
These are arbitrary numbers I threw together just
to make the example. Does this type of
    condensed (updated of course)information still
exist? I know it really helped me make decisions
    selling canola.

That may be an Alberta Agriculture chart but will have to look for on line. I might comment that not likely as relavent today as I suspect the whole pricing complex for canola has shifted higher. Looking at the nine year chart, the earlier 2000's had a trading range in the $250 to $400/tonne range. The latter part of the 2000's see that trading range shift higher into the $350 to $600/tonne range (taking out early 2008). Higher price range should both reflect the higher cost to grow canola (could anyone grow canola for $8/bu profitably) and the increased demand side (ability to sell 14 MMT year in year out). Would be an interesting chart to do again - may look at later this winter.

Heres a 40 year bean chart, that works well enough for marketing canola.
