Interesting. 9 people at the executive level managing farming. That's the recipe for success. I am doing it all wrong.

These investment firms can overpay for land by calling it the last frontier and make money. I have obviously underpaid for land and its still not enough for me to walk around in a suit and make such claims.

The farm can be production successful with plenty
of cash. Best Seed, fert, fungicide, machines ,
          trained employees money can buy.
Profitability in this situation is the other side of the
equation. The suits will manage the finances and
risks the best they can on paper. As we all know,
when farming, the plan seldom survives a collision
with reality. A fifty cent/bushel drop in canola price
due to a little frost, or "heat shrink" (wtf?) in wheat
can erode anticipated revenue reeeeeal quick. I
may be disillusioned (or a crappy farmer) but
somehow I have learned to plan for success but
          curb my enthusiasm.
I remember an old timer telling me that farming is
a hard way to make an easy living. Hopefully the
change to respectable pricing for primary ag
production has pulled itself up onto a new floor.

Farming isn't about crops and machinery
and marketing. Its about keeping busy till
your land value goes up. People who rent
lots of land kinda miss the whole point of
            'farming'.

Absolutely! Average price of canola was
7.50 a couple years ago. Today its 11.
Value of land will catch up to value of
                grain proportionately, therefore over next
few years it'll go up 150%. history has
                shown us it always does.

Maybe that's why they are buying land?

World population? Population to increase to what in a few years. Looks like were in uncharted territory.
So in all honesty does history have anything to do with what is going to happen with grain prices or farm profits in the next few years? My history lesson is when investors started buying properties in Saskatoon some years back sellers did not have to fix anything they did not have to clean anything. A house for sale was snapped up by an investor. Those investors at the right time doubled their money in a few short years the ones investing at the right time. Rent although off a little is still high.
