Some of these arguments are the same as when Sasktel was told to compete.

Alot of people stuck with sasktel because they knew the service. Sasktel didn't go broke, but then again I still can't get good cell service where I need it. And it wouldn't have mattered if I changed providers, there is no service in that area.

Milk is a taste thing for me. I do not care for Foremost milk, I prefer Dairyland. I think, maybe, the price could come down but I think I will still be looking for the dairyland brand.

It would effect eveyone, including canola growers to some extent.
Dairy rations include a lot of Canola meal in their products, so guess what, the cost of shipping more meal down to California will tighten crush margins, and in turn you know what way s$#t flows!

But I'm sure the government will make an informed decision involving all pros and cons before shooting from the hip! LOL

When was food freedom day in Canada? The first days of February? And grain farmers should be worried about the price of dairy products and fowl in supply managed Canada, why? So you can have the difference to buy beer at a sporting event, drinking booze from an edible cheese smelling US running shoe?

There are none so blind as those who will not see. Checking wonders why those outside of supply management should care. Maybe some of us want to milk some cows, feed some chickens, collect some eggs without the prohibitive cost of membership in the club.

Ya... so more animals eating more grain equals it's
got nothing to with us grain farmers, minus cheaper
bills at the grocery store, minus we could start
                farming the lucrative meat trade.

Another "stunning"display of logic and reason.

                  HT.

How many grain farmers do you know in your area that presently run a for your own uses flock of chickens, and a barn milker? If they wouldn't do it for their own uses in the past, all without anyone being thrown in jail, I can't see why they would be interested in scaling it up for the many. This leaves a small critical mass that like it or not already exists to supply the needs.

You'd just blow the few dollars saved on another pack of cigarettes, or an extra tank of petro carving donuts in a grain farmers field.

HT I cannot argue with your point about not being able to get into the business by other CANADIAN farmers. But do you think even if you were able would you be able to compete with the low wages costs, subsidies of other countries?

rider, it all boils down to which you prefer; a command economy or a market economy. I have to go with the latter since, over time, it will prevail anyway.

Checking, since when do farmers not want to farm? Give 'em a chance.

It's funny how China works with a quota on rare earths. The world won't even buy the amount of tonnes offered.(sigh) Even more funny how molycorp shares have declined.

What is it about people selling their first born (substitute soul for the believer) to possess the next ounce of mined silver? - comment for silver collectors only!!!

HT, you're dealing with such a small driven group that would desire to be dairy - poultry farmers. A niche of niches whose shelf life would be taken out rather quickly by scaled companies with millions of layers and friers, and oceans of milk. To what end? For the equivalent of an individual's change for weekly lottery tickets. Not worth it just to eliminate the present system!

Ramp it up to tens of thousands of grain farmers foregoing millions each on as few as tens of quarters of land over a lifetime and you have my attention on why a marketing board needed to be scrapped.
