Thinking of changing air drills, which
pulls harder Flexicoil or Bourgault? Kind
of restricted on horse power without
changing tractors as well. Thanks in

Depends on which bourgault. Anything with a mid row is a pig and pulls hard.

Has anyone used or own a JD or Baurgault
disk drill? What are the pros and cons
of these drills?

food4u, I use both a Flexicoil and a Bourgault air drill. It is true about the mid row banders adding to the draft. But if you are using a much wider point to compensate for no banders you can end up with similar draft. Your ground openers are the biggest determinate of your draft. A drill that holds an even depth will help reduce draft, but a parallel link will eat up that reduction in increased hydraulic load unless your land is very uneven.

I use a John deere 1895 which comes with mid row banders.

The 43 foot is pulled behind a 9300 (supposed to be 360hp) at 7 mph and I run at about 1800rpm. Fuel use is very low for what I get done. Its not a great drill if its wet although there are new gauge wheels available that may clean out better.

In dry ground its great. It pulls easy.

If you have rough land from discers, its not going to level or move any dirt.

I like the bourgault disk drill but a 60 footer is just shy of 500,000.00, too much.

I am running a 32'Harmon with the
narrowest points I can get for it. Have a
chance to go to a 40' Bourgault but I do
not think my 836 Versatile will have
enough jam to pull it.Our fields are
fairly level as we have been continuous
cropping since 2000.

Forgot to mention that I am on heavy clay
like Rosetown or Regina, some fields are
flat and some are rolling with large
coulees( natural water runs that can be
farmed through).

A neighbor pulls 50' of Bourgault 8810 with mid row banders, 2" hoe points, 3" packers, and 5350 cart with a 9200 JD. Black soil, rolling topography.

Seedhawk, seedmaster pull the easiest. Need hydraulics though.
