Why would a Seedmaster Seedhawk pull easier than the new bourgault contour drill with mid rows. Maybe your not comparing the same drill. Before I had the seedmaster I had a 5710 with shank mid rows and 3/4 seed and fert knives. The seedmaster still using anhydrous does pull easier but I would think the bourgault new drill would pull easier yet as also the seed bed is left so much smoother and less rocks pulled up.

cotton
Rocks are not too bad on them but if they are too big I go around them, makes combining easier.
If the trash is dry they cut good, if its damp you may find pinning a problem. I just sleep a little longer, so the straw is drier and work later. Its still gets enough done in a day

We are in year four of the Morris contour drill ,
had a 47 ft, now 51 ft. Toe behind seed cart, 3
compartment unit 8370, 430 bu. capacity.
We use the paired row opener from Morris on 12
inch spacing. Incredible seed depth accuracy and
uniformity, best emergence we have ever had.
Pretty low draft unit. We use an older NH 9682 to
pull the outfit, so 360 hp, could probably pull 61 ft
no problem in the good going. We get some
sketchy weather and field conditions here often,
clay/loam soil, so stayed with the 51 ft.
The biggest drawback about this drill is it does not
like trash. Straw management is imperative. Be it
cutting shorter stubble length, heavy harrowing, or
not seeding when it is a bit too wet.
If you have big trash, you will make beaver huts
all over the field. Our situation may be different
than some as we still apply Nh3 in a separate
pass before we seed. Min till, not zero till.
Perhaps adding to the trash clearance problem
more so than a zero till due to the added
disturbance. Ymmv.

thanks S_W, I think your probably on to something with that preceeding operation adding to your plugging troubles. Any stuble thats laying over or loss will only help in the building of the beaver huts! but that would be true for seedmaster or seedhawk too.
