2 questions

What is the earliest you have ever seeded and gotten
away with it?

Hypothetically,if we could in the future start growing
2 crops in a year or 3 in 2 years (however that
works?)what would they be?

May 5th is my earliest. This year could
well break that, though my home quarter
has two bare patches on it now.

"here" there is no hope for any more
than one crop in a season.

I sometimes, ok often envy other guys
who are dryer. Until a year like 1988,
2002, or perhaps this year comes along.
I am nervous, and we still have snow
cover! Can't imagine being bare in mid
march. Though with the forecast, we will
be bare soon enough.

We've planted corn or barley as early as April 20
(recently).

Dad said in the mid 30s there was a winter like this
and Grandpa planted his barley underseeded March
25. Went well until the last week in May when there
was a hard frost that killed off the new seeding but he
still had a great crop of barley.

1968 was dryer than this in our area. Field work started mid March, seeding Apr 20 or so. Crop was above average.
That year harvest dragged on till Nov with very poor quality that all needed drying.

In 2004 I seeded a field of Wheat April 12th. I was feeling pretty good about it until it got froze black in early May. I still produced a crop but it was not as good as the later seeded fields.

1961 was very dry here. Could drive down the river beds. Crop sucked. Earliest seeded was April 7 1980. Snowed May long wheat was tillering turned out to be a good crop.

28th of april, twice - once excellent once was reseed. Last year even stuff seeded may 11th got torched. Like to be done around long weekend in may.

8 out of the last 10 we have started before the end of April. 5 of those years before April 20th the earliest start was April 15 in 05 or O6 Can't Remember. I have Monday April 16th as a target date this year. Our Winter Wheat is all turning green and looking good, I think with the forecast we should be off to the races (I hope).

If we are at one with the moon we should be planting around Apr 6 or May 5th. cant wait until May 5th, not after the last couple years. Maybe save Canola for around that time. supposed to be 26 here in Weyburn today.... WOW.

We will start Durum an Peas in April but
thats it. No Canola till the 5th of May.

I thought it was new moon for seeding?

We had a guy in our area years ago that
use to see by certain moon. Crop looked
awsome then it froze. Repeat cycle over
and over. Finally he doesnt farm any more.

I believe its New moon for things like potatos and Carrots root crops. above ground crops are "seed by the light of the moon" meaning Full Moon. I could be wrong.
