    Viterra

So the Canadian global agribusiness is nearing its end. Too bad, it never really took on the challenge of what it could do as a global player, post CWB. So it makes me wonder, how ready were the people at Viterra anyway?

Was Mayo just blowing smoke to line his pockets? What about some of the directors that have ties to other agriventures?

Here is a list of other questions to ponder about the pending sale of Viterra.

    1. Why didn't federated co-op take a stab at this business?

    2. Why wasn't the cwb trying to get some assets?

    3. Why do the Richardsons always get an invite for the table scraps instead of Patterson or P&H?

    4. Does this change farmers business relationships with existing viterra facilties?

    5. What happened to the Gavilon deal?

I have more but this is a starting point for discussion.

    Any thoughts?

    6. Does the competition bureau look deeply in to Agrium's hold on fertilizer in western canada from both production and retail? Seems odd we just got rid of one monopoly and the government allows one on the input side.

    7. How much will pioneer end up with on the grain. Going west from here there is a pioneer at reed lake, and one in swift current, a Viterra in swift and a Patterson. My guess is they will have to let one facility go.

    8. Why couldn't Viterra just say no and carry on making the same or more money, maybe with a different main man. It sounds Mayo might have brought this on himself with the major shareholders. Although the major shareholders are just as stupid to just sell out. If its just about the money, Viterra had some tremendous years ahead. Major growth and returns. I doubt that a big player like Glencore could show that return when bundled into a monster.

      9. If the current wingnuts are looking for 15 billion from the federal government for an entity with no assets, how is it that 50 percent of the grain handling in Canada is only worth 6 billion?

      10. I know its all about money, but do no canadians sitting as major shareholder want to remain as a Canadian entity? Viterra should have had the gavilon deal done by now. I watched Ipsco morph into SSAB from sweden who then sold to the Russian Evraz. Split up a Saskatchewan born steel and pipe maker that was a North American leader to where profits now go to Russia. Same thing will happen to Viterra. What a bunch of treasonist sell outs.

My question is probably easier to answer.

What happens to my Viterra grain contract, if next week comes, and Viterra no longer exists?

Why are you always on this "every man for himself.." mantra?

It seems you have never been to my farm to help pay the bills or offer an extra hand, so who really do you think does the work on my farm? It is every man for himself.

Are you the guy that asks his neighbor for help all the time with empty promises to return the favour? I have had neighbors like that and I am, quite frankly, glad to be rid of them.

Are you the guy that needs help finishing up combining because its late but never starts his combine early for a neighbor?

I get your type but quit with this "poor me socialist crap".

You seem to be the kind of guy that thinks he is entitled to another man's wealth for no good reason.

This thread is about what Viterra could do different to remain a viable canadian operation not about your petty cwb mommy issues.

BTW why didn't your beloved cwb take a run at some of the assets of Viterra instead of buying boats??

Viterra can NEVER go back to being just Viterra. The investment community (farmers have no say) will not settle for anything from the BOD that does not result in a minimum of $16/share and the only reason it is there versus $10/$11 is because of the potential buyout so reality is that once a bid has been made one cannot go back.

I am not sure where FCL could come up with enough cash to compete against this type of offer given their ownership/co-operative structure.

I don't like all this stop and start stop start stop start stop trading bullshit. It means there is leaked info going out to select few people. Publicly traded companies corporate news is supposed to go out to everyone at the same time that is a rule they need to follow.

it really does not matter , what becomes of Viterra . it is just another corporation .
At the point that the Sask wheat pool
members started taking orders from the
business types we hired to run it.
                    it was over.

spending money to tear down some perfectly good , paid for elevators.
                    spending like drunken sailors ,

trying to run everyone else out of business. esp . local co-ops. ,could not leave the local with one form of fert. NH3 and do granular, or vice versa.
                    no sense at all
because they knew better .we were just hicks and had no business vision .
                    had to grow global .
the signs of collapse were all there in hindsight.
no.1 when the CEO says everything is wonderful. no worries, then worry

no.2 breaking the the rule of do what you know . donuts shops and ports in Poland.

no. 3 no innovation and no vision coming from grass roots, it was not allowed ,
i tried to get condo space
built when it was still the pool.
i tried to get SWP into generic chemicals , but the pool staff were already in the chem co.s back pocket.

farmers got lazy and ruined it.
the farmer owned terminals are worth saving but not Viterra

Found a website that shows insider trading deals but only up till feb. 14th. Will be interesting to see the update some day. This website shows a few insiders making buys up till feb. 14th but nothing out of the ordinary as they were making typical buys over at least 3 years time also.

                      Gunner Perry Richard Director
                      Mclennan Rex John Senior Officer
                      Osborn Kevin George Director

One can search their individual names and easily go back 3 years. All buys no sales. Have to repeate nothing out of the ordinary but website only goes up till Feb. 14. Interesting, shows what purchases were stock option plans or outright purchases.

Lots of ways insider info could be used for personal gain. Giving info to family members, friends, mutual fund managers for personal gain. All illegal.

It would be ok if it was the cwb but they too would have to clean house to become a respectable group.

It took them over 9 months to announce the same programs as what they had and still no viable contracts are available for new crop.

If insiders were buying shares they either knew this was going to happen or they felt Viterra was on a path to growth. The latter would indicate the company had more potential than they were telling shareholders.
