This just might work out very good. We
have used richardson before and have had
good results. The Glencore thing might
give us more access. So still competition.
The agrium deal well lets just say that
puppy has sailed and we will not purchase
      product from them.

How do you think agrium gets around the competition bureau smell test?

This gives a basic monopoly on fertilizer.

Mustard doesn't this just prove that the CWB monopoly deterred any international
investment or interest in our grain industry.

I think that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The easiest route is to buyout existing
assets. Next will be new investment in strategic locations.

As for Agrium's purchase, I guess we should continue to support our local
independent dealer. I could never bring myself to buy much from Viterra anyway.

Most independants have agrium as a supplier or shareholder.

If gives agrium a monpoly on the fertilizer business in western canada.

The Fertilizer deal does worry me! The
grain side we will still have same
elevators and same number of companies.
But the Fert. Thats the problem and that
              will cost us big time.

I know our independent buys fertilizer from Alpine, mosaic, yara, koch and agrium.
In fact I believe that they are working on shipment of fertilizer out of St. Louis.

The tough part is if your only supplier in the area is Viterra or an Agrium. It is
expensive to go 40 plus miles to pickup fertilizer for a blend.

We use liquid so we make our own blend. All of our fertilizer is bought in the
summer, delivered in the fall and stored on farm. This allows us to buys wherever we
                want.

from Weyburn, everything to the south and east will be Richardson's.
hope they have to sell off something(as Agricore and SWP) so that we have some competion in this area.

Also wonder what is happening on the equipment side of things? Can't see Agrium interested in that nor JRI nor Glencore....

I think some of Viterra's future growth was coming from these types of partnerships with fuel or equipment sales. It was becoming a one stop center and gaining support.

If the new owners dump that, they have taken away some of the growth potential that maybe isn't showing up yet.
