Best time to buy winter wheat seed?

I did single app. I just spread it
myself with an old spreader. Did 46 and
it rained that night about 6 tenths. In
that way it was perfect. I can't help
you on the split app. question. Sorry. I
put 50 pounds like a dummy thinking two
years would have given me the balance.
Yielded only 40 to 50. Where I
overlapped, I am sure it was more like
80 plus. I figured the numbers out that
fall. Had I spent 20 bucks more on n, I
probably would have gained 150 to 200
more dollars an acre, as the wheat was
worth 8 bucks or so that year. Between
taking another guys advice, and not soil
testing, I lost stupid potential on the
300 acres I had in. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Was thinking maybe the split app would
help to raise the protein level.

I guess it depends on your market target.
I would think it would help.
