    Guys . . . Price Your Barley

An opinion for what it's worth but . . .
the corn price plunge, renewed cattle
feeding losses and lack of Cdn barley
sales both feed and malt is a stark
warning to the cash market. Feed barley
bids remain hot, but demand is starting
    to stumble.

And Cdn malt barley demand is as dead as
the Flames playoff hopes right now.

ERROL, your preachen to the choir. Tell us
something we don't already know. We don't need
any extra help to run these prices off track.

I thought a proper marketing strategy would prevent the feeders from losing money?

Is it wise to price when corn is near contract lows?

How in Hell can one price a product that hasn't even been seeded, grown or harvested? Roll of the dice perhaps?

Seems to me that farmers need a marketing board or similar marketing structure or entity to work on their behalf. Has that been tried successfully before? Perhaps a marketing co-op would work. Better get your heads together and come up with something before you go bust.

Wilagro, you have the absolute freedom to
start one up and make it super successful
where all the farmers want to be a part of
it. Or just keep whining. Probably the
            latter.

Global malt market is very soft right now.

Live and feeder cattle were hammered this
week. This is my concern about the barley
bids ahead as cattle feeders are our key
                  buyer.

It would be nice to have a malt buyer's
opinion on this thread, as I certainly
don't know. In my opinion, malt barley
prices are 'way too low', but that
unfortunately is the status of the current
                      global market.
