So you are concerned about property rights which is great but for who? The countries and corporates buying out our industry? If you were really concerned about canadian farmers I would think there should be a strategy or policy to allow Canadians to own the land and sell our product into what is going to be prices like never seen before. Just too many people in asia etc and no where else to get what they need.

There is more to the takeover story here, either politcians are on the take or they are really stupid. Just my opinion.

Homeowner, Lukaszuk at odds over alleged assault

There are conflicting reports about what happened on the campaign trail in Edmonton-Castle Downs this weekend, with the riding's P.C. candidate and a constituent offering different versions of an alleged physical attack.


Police were called out to a residence in the area of 167th Avenue and 98th Street Saturday afternoon after Thomas Lukazuk told them he was assaulted by a homeowner while he was out doorknocking.

"The moment the door opened the gentleman realized who I was and started pushing and shoving me and punching me with an open fist," said the candidate, who is seeking his fourth term. "[He] punched me in my upper chest and shoulder and threatened to kick me in my crotch number of times."








But Al Michulchuk disagrees with that account, saying Lukaszuk was aggressive and refused to move on.

"He was asked repeatedly – probably 6,7,8 times - to leave, and he wouldn't leave," said the 67-year-old, who has a sign on his lawn indicating he supports Wildrose candidate John Oplanich. "For him to harass me like this is not warranted, it's uncalled for."

Michulchuk admits he tried to physically remove the former education minister from his door step, but denies trying to cause significant harm.

"I grabbed him by the sweater and turned him around and started pushing him off my property."

The north-end resident also tells CTV News he's had repeated problems with Lukaszuk in the past, something the Tory also denies.

Police are now investigating the incident. The politician says he's provided a full statement, and will let officers decide whether charges are warranted.

rider: The concept of private property rights means it is your property and you can use it as you see fit. That means if you want to sell it, you can?
Most people want to get the best price possible.
If you choose to sell it for less because you don't want China, or hutterites, or corporations, or whatever......that is also your right?
But you shouldn't think everyone has to conform to your ideals? I think you miss the concept of private property rights.

Don't worry Rider, Sask isn't far behind Alberta in removing your rights and concentrating power in Regina. The Statutory Consent and Property rights grab is being proposed shortly, just for you. Ontario is right on track as is BC so it we don't deal with it here in Alberta you will domino right over. Of course you do have the extra protection of a green helmet during football season.

#5 Alberta Accountability Actþ

After forty years in power, the Redford PCs have lost touch with the values of everyday Albertans and must be held accountable – accountable for broken promises, backroom deals, and for MLAs putting the interests of the PC Party over those of their constituents.

These reforms can’t come from within the Redford government, who have made government even more closed-off and hidden from public scrutiny. We need a party and a Premier who want to throw open the doors of government and operate within a culture of accountability, not a culture of entitlement.

It takes more than a triple-A credit rating to run an effective government, it takes a triple-A rating on integrity and accountability – that’s what the Alberta Accountability Act will create here in Alberta.

The Alberta Accountability Act will:

•Ensure MLAs are accountable to their constituents by allowing MLAs a free vote on every proposed law and giving voters the right to recall MLAs that put the interests of themselves or their party over the interests of their constituents.
•Set fixed provincial and Senate election dates and allow voter-initiated referenda to strengthen democracy and empower Albertans.
•Promote a culture of honesty and openness in government by rolling back the 30% increase in salary for Cabinet Ministers that Premier Redford supported, prohibiting MLAs from setting their own salaries in the future, passing whistleblower protection and requiring the public disclosure of Minister and MLA expenses
•Open up government by making it easier for everyday citizens to access government documents and information

Looks like real democracy is about to break out in Alberta!

Hey Silverback, it looks like I reside in your general
area as well. Arno is my MLA and we've locked
horns a couple of times. Enough said! He should
take his buy out and go bug his kids. But you're
right. I can't believe how many there are opposed to
the largess of the PC's and their recent policies and
yet are afraid to change their vote for fear of the
unknown and worse yet, fear of repercussions if
nothing changes. At least my inner circle are on the
same page. Should be interesting (for once). Glad to
see Teddy go - what an opportunist!

Pars is absolutely correct. We need to make contact with everyone we can to educate them on why a change is necessary. There are several positive reasons to vote WR and a litany of reasons not to vote PC.
