Agree with the last two comments....

I came to Canada as a 5 year old kid with my parents... To a community that hates
outsiders.

I sure as hell won't be one of those when it comes to welcoming new people to the
country.

What's the problem with families from other countries moving in and farming... I recall
reading not too many years ago that Sask didn't have enough people to take over the
farms from the retiring generation.


This is just my $0.02, but it looks like a lot of people on here need a constant
crusade. The CWB is gone, so now it's foreigners buying land (investors, and ordinary
families).


I recall reading on here not too long ago too that the U of S is over run with Chinese
kids... um.... 80% of those enrolled in the Ag College are from Saskatchewan. 50% of
those are from a farming background.

reading the intent correctly, should be the priority,
as has been suggested. What about language
skills? What about age? Any priorities? What
about foreign governments purchasing land
masses for their state farming and placing

Canada has foreign ownership laws... I have worked with the Chinese investors...
the government isn't involved. They hate the gov't. That's why they came here in
the first place.


Language skills? Sure. And they do learn English - give them time.

I see Rural SK towns filling up, new houses going up, new businesses going up.
This is good.

I don't see the problem here other than that some people always need to find
something to complain about.


Canada is a melting pot of cultures... Darcy's background is Norwegian and
English, I'm Germanic... we blend our backgrounds. A Chinese man marries a woman
from Canada, they'll blend theirs. I've been the victim of racism, and I don't
tolerate that BS. End of story.


A lot of people complain about the Natives, and at the same time, complain about
immigrants... Well, most of them came from Europe at some point, I.E. Immigrated.


When this bubble bursts, then those same persons will complain there's no one to
buy the land, again.

Because of the size farmers have gotten to thinking they must be, IE 10 000 acres or more, who the heck else other than investors from other countries or otherwise, is able to buy the land? I have little complaint with this as well. I mean, who on here other than SF3, could walk in and buy a 5000 acre farm? lol

I dunno, maybe I have backyarditis, because here there are many families farming, the biggest guy daring to be around 4 000 acres, with most in the 1400 to 2500 acre range. No chineeeeeese investment anywhere near here, and probably will not ever be. The young guys here are sticking around whether daddy has 4 quarters or 79. Though some of my neighbors are aggravating, it is nice to look out the end of my driveway. I can see 10 yards within 2 miles, all with young farm families. The attitude here has not been to be huge, but to be good at it, and so the kids see this, and want to farm, in spite of the weather issues of the last decade.

I guess my point is, generally, that the farmers who have been hoodwinked to expand like it is all in life that matters, end up quitting. NOBODY can walk in and buy a large farm from scratch. And we get surprised that outside investors are coming in? May I ask why?

IF we had been encouraging our kids to farm, while our greedy and selfish fortunes are being built, rather than saying get outa here and see if you wanna come back someday, or don't farm, it sucks, maybe we would not be in this boat right now. Really, farming has changed so much in the last 5 or 10 years, and frankly it is becoming ridiculous. Farmers are mad when a neighbor rents a half section, they are mad when the neighbor gets a bigger drill, they are mad when the neighbor.... Farming was more fun when everyone had contentment. Who is content anymore? It is a more more more world, and it is driving me crazy!!!

I do see the point regarding these guys coming in and sponging off the aggravation teat, while locals who have suffered get diddly, etc.. But why are the farmers who have had this big push to get bigger bigger bigger, so against outside investment? Who else will buy your land?

cook local grown food, hence buy the
frams and grow it yerself tooo. A great

Klause give us a break, some of us in Sask. are 3rd generation have not complainers. Some of this started with the unpresidented federal gov't payments to the CWB in their early years when their initial payments were over market value. We complain, we get. Weather and market forces is just not something a farmer should prepare for. wink. Get it? Still not a bad place, you could have picked much worse places in the world.

Parsley Klause maybe only rents 4 quarters from an investor based from Ontario who could be from any where if they have permanent residency. What is your question about how many Chinese?

most of scotland is owned by foreigners , (counting english)as there are no laws to stop them.
unrestricted foreign or investor ownership does nobody any good except the ones selling out.

I wondered how that works and how many he has
worked with. He volunteered the info. so just

The deal with... ahem... the first
suitor let's call him... fell through in
MB in the last minute... so we are in
negotiations with a Chinese investor
group...

I can't really say much more, other than
they simply place funds, buy land, rent
it out to local farmers for current
valued rents. Canadians are "managing"
it, Chinese-Canadians in the office.
Seem like really nice people.
