wheat HRS or SWS time to decide

have enough seed , to seed either on my wheat acres.
a lot of farms around here have
    gone to SWS
i don't know if any wheat justifies 1.00
    lb. N
    any thoughts?

We have done SWS and hard red, I really think the demand will be cps red. It has way more applications for the end user such as bread or ethanol so it will have more market opportunities. Soft white is only used for ethanol and cookies and hard red is a premium wheat only used in bread not liked by ethanol plants. CPS yields as good as sws and should be worth more.

Ordinarily i would say quality over quantity, but the
system is so rigged who knows-(i'm coming after you
      grading ****ers someday)

I suspect grade and protein spreads will widen in the new world (or at least remain wide) in the case of CWRS. Based on this, I would look at historical quality/protein for CWRS on your farm and use to make my decision. If you farm harvested 1 or 2 CWRS wheat with 13 percent plus protein 7 of the past 10 years, then CWRS will remain the best wheat to grow. If my farm grows low protein CWRS (lses than 12 %) or 3CWRS a high proportion of the last 10 years, then I would push to the SWS/CPS wheats.

All comes down to your budget sheets and risk factors.

I always think of worst case scenario. If I grow
hrsw it is subject to the graders and usually have
to fight the elevator about protein levels. If It
freezes in the fall I have a lower volume of feed
hrsw. If I grow sws wheat, it may go milling, if it
freezes, I have a higher volume of low quality
wheat for the feedlot or ethanol plant. I don't care
much for hrsw. I never made any real profit from
it. I also recall sitting in the elevator listening to
the old farmers and agents game of bullshit poker.
Farmers would brag about their beautiful sample,
it's so deep red it must be a number one. Blah
blah blah. Like it was really something special.
The state of Kansas produces more wheat than
all of Canada. Wheat is being harvested
somewhere in the world every day of the year.
Hrsw is not that special. Grow the wheat that you
know the price when you sell it . I think I have a
          CWB hangover!

The increased interest in SWS wheat is scaring me, I am already in an area that the ethanol markets are too far away. Do have a local feed mill that loves the stuff. but too much grown in my area.

Wish I could trade my SWS for hard red, but time to change is out.
