    Second Service? SaskPower!

Ok the wheels are moving to get this
done. We drew the plan? Dah 150 ft from
end of main line thats where we want the
    box.
Well lets just say the cost came in at
$10,000.00 minus some BS of a discount
so $8,000.00 plus GST to go 100 ft of
underground cable and their box. Then my
Electrician is coming to do the hook up
and every other thing for another total
of 6000. So a new service for the dryer
and bins costs $14,000.00 Yea I got a
    deal.

If that is for a 3 phase service; then I'd say its a deal; in fact a real asset.

Prices have gone up. Ten plus years ago it was two grand for a new service. Then SaskPower doubled it to $4,000. About last year price quotes were up to $17,000 for "winter rates"
This is another case of being on your own and being "powerless".
Now if you would change your whole attitude and support other peoples wants and needs (on a consistant basis); and if they would reciprocate; you might even find that everyone had more "power" and would be charged more reasonably.
That is because there are some strong arguments that a group could make; that always seem hypocritical when coming from a single individual who doesn't "walk that same talk"
However, that takes an attitude change towards business. And so you and everyone is stuck paying $8,000 plus GST which we all agree seems pretty steep for what we get.

And you will be lucky if you get the additional service within several month. Maybe not even this year.

What additional support do you have to get the transformer installation done?. You will find that getting a transformer and meter hung on an existing pole is the fastest and cheapest option. Then all secondary wiring; road crossing etc is done by your electrician. Saskpower and/or its contracted crews don't even seem to want the secondary service wiring business anymore.
Is three phase service available on that same power pole?. At least then you have a real electrical service that will serve all your future needs. I don't see how single phase will meet your aeration and bin and dryer power requirements longterm.

$8000 is what I got quoted for smaller
service in AB through an REA. Monopoly
always sucks when it is your supplier.

Their man stopped by to check the yard
today and see where the main line is
buried under our yard. We did the two pole
back to yard light transformer pole.
So they will splice the main line for 58
ft to the dryer. Now their asking if we
would do our old pole in yard to new style
where they pay half yea another $2000.00
                  Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why the second service in the first place. 400 amp would do you correct???? And be cheaper in the long run cause with 2 services you pay 2 basis fees. 600 dollars per year for nothing.

The main service in Yard is tapped. Lights
dim in second house when dryer adds grain.
This way we have the dryer and Future new
                      bins connected to this service.
