Well May is gone for 2012. We had one
drill going today in the hills. The
second is sitting beside a stream that
wasnt their a week ago.
Sprayed HRS that was just poking though
the ground lets just say probably
shouldnt have done that really made a
mess, but had to get a burn off so its
done.
Tried to harrow a few fields but water
is still sitting all over the place.
Water is also running in every low area
and moving real good some ravines.
One thing is for sure we are loosing
ground in our area. The land that was
seeded now has water lying on surface so
those parts even if they dry up will
produce nothing.
This has continued since 2010. Really
getting sick of Rain.
Thanks larry for sending the map of
moisture from 2010 and 2012. Guess what
were Purple again.

Good description, sf3. Today I floated
some on. swore I would never again, but
what do you do? The field was slime from
one end to the other. Should germinate,
but as far as grow into anything
remotely decent, doubtful. I think I
made the correct decision on that half.
If it stayed nice, it would be at least
10 days to be seedable, but alas, I do
not trust it to stay nice.

The thing I did different this year, is
I put a decent meal on with the seed, as
well as jump start. So if it germs,
dries out etc. it at least has a
fighting chance.

What a disheartening string of years.
The floater guy was thinking it didn't
look too bad, when he got to the field.
And then he started moving... Hmmm yeah,
ruts everywhere. A real mess.

Problem is, I think I will have to do
some more yet. I don't think my other
fields are much better.

Been there before in in the peace country, we are still trying to get done. Years ago the wifes uncle had a string of dry years and was praying for any rain, i told him you can manage dry but not wet, he could not see my point. A few years later he was monsooned all year and he told me now i what you were talking about. Dry years you have fields in good shape, seed, etc. Wet you are screwed.

Good points. Yes in the dry years our
fields were all 160 acre open and fun to
farm. The lower areas yielded like crazy
and the hills did ok. But this sloppy
shit, where you wear rubber boots as
normal shoes is getting to me.
One of my friends stopped by and said
hes seeding I asked how. Oh If i get to
30% of the field its done ps on this
year again.
One thing its more pockets this year. I
went for a drive and 10 miles west they
were all going. North of me their
probably done for the year and south
their going but mostly just to finish.

We have gotten so sucked in by chemical and
machinery companies. No till pour on the
chemical farming can't be good for anyone. We
donate money and time to collecting for cancer
research and are eating pure poison.

I was looking for a cure for tomato blight and
thought I would check out Bravo - Toxic
Carcinogen. The obituaries are full of young
people dying of cancer. Our life spans are
declining.

I watch my little grandchildren eating beautiful
fruit all shiney and perfect and wonder just what
is under the wax coating. Potatoes, coffee,
orchards are repeatedly sprayed. Most people
have never even grown a seed with no chemical.
This cant be good. Parsley, I'm with you on this
one. We have sold mankind to the big machine.

9 years out of 10, you have 15 days max of optimum seeding days. On either side of that is just pure luck, bad luck or stupidity. Some clowns here count on 25 days seeding, re - tard - ed. Suppermanitis from that 1 year in 30.

Furrow I was harrowing today meanwhile some neigbours were planting, not at a fast pase, going through water, I managed to harrow the wet spots of 8 quarters today. Time well spent.

Hopper, anyone there trying vertical tillage machines to dry out soil? Some say they work well, others not.

We didnt get going with both till
yesterday. I was out harrowing wheat and
oats stubble. The seedmaster was going a
day earlier on Canola stubble that was
harrowed the day before. Still have 3 that
we have to find access to since road has
water going over it. RM says sorry but
nothing till summer.

Hopper is the Kelly harrow used in your
area. And if it is does it dry out quick
for seeding.

My neighbors are ummm.....direct cultivating. I get
a kick out of them, they are so righteous with their
zero till and now it's all back to tillage just to get
the crop in. I think they are also scamming the
carbon credit company. They had to sign that no
tillage for a number of years. Now the whole farm
is tilled up. I don't think they will pay back that
money, it's all tied up in a zero till drill! Ironic.

I do get a kick out of all that spraying. But hey,
most producers have been convinced that you
can't farm without it. They get that look. Like a
junkie!

feed in one operation. Someday it will be
reinvented, when half of our kids are fighting
cancer.
