the chinese know that food is getting scarce, and is going to get a whole lot dearer pretty soon.
$2 premimium will be a good deal.
    they are not stupid.
have they not manipulated grain markets downwards for 15 yrs to drive as many off the land as possible>?

You would think that if it wasvan issue of food
procurement, they would be contacting the grain
      marketers, not so.

maybe the land bank was flawed
people not taking care of an asset they do not own. raising land prices
risk of gov.s changing the rules etc.
but maybe it would have prevented some of this. lessor of evils.

it has all been rejected for the free market.
it has been great for SF3 , the hutterites,Mennonites, oil money from Alberta. investor groups.
maybe not so great for those in the trenches, with 3 $ wheat 5.50 canola and poor capitol.

can not change the rules now, small medium farms will have to dig deep to compete .
work hard ,have lots of kids , stay out of divorce court, plan for a more modest retirement, so the next generation has a chance.

Should we not question whether one person requires 40 quarters of land (or much more). That only leaves room for x amounts of manager/farmers in your community, your province or your world.

And make no mistakes about it; when those few; large farmers become old or tired or disenchanted or depressed or sick or whatever......they will be the worst offenders at ignoring their neighbors or country; and will take the high dollar from anyone who offers.
And that will happen sooner with large farmers than ever happened with family farms which used to traditionally work the land in Western Canada.
No one should have any sympathy for the plight of any large farming operation. They will look after themselves (with rare exceptions).

SF3 The gov't knows but they didn't close the loophole the last sitting of legislature. Everyone is at the lake and nothing will be done till this fall. Should call everyone back in and get it done.

Good post Oneoff, single farm families that need 40
quarters cannot be deemed efficient by any means. I
like the Hutterite model, hard working people living
on the land working collectively for a common goal. A
typical colony with 10,000 acres and 25 families is
supporting each family off 400 acres through the
added enterprises of livestock. I believe that type of
land use efficiency and productivity offers great
opportunity on the prairies. Proof that this works is
that virtually every Hutterite kid remains in
agriculture, can't say that about the general farm
              population.

What else do they know grassfarmer? They are uneducated and held like slaves. Only they don't know it. The freedom to learn is stripped from them. I work with many of the runaways and spend hours with them in winter months. Its not all what your making it out to be.

You should move to China, grassy. You'd love it
there, where one bIg state farm manager could
direct your daily work. The big picture consisting
of quotas and central planning and robot
obedience would satisfy your need to be under a
bIg protective umbrella, akin to a hill of ants, to
robotically cranking out the daily output.

You would find contentment, excitement and a
noble cause for the greater good in the People's
Republic. I'll tough it out with jdgreen. Pars.

By the way grassy, you'll be locked in. Cuba
locks in their people, too. But it's all for the
greater good. No sense having bastards around
that cherry pick countries. What kind of execution
is the most suitable for fellow escapees, grassy?
                    Shooting or poisoning them? Pars

What a bunch of paranoid crybabies.

You're happy enough when the foreign capital is raising the value of your land but you cry foul if a neighbour sells to someone who isn't "local". Get over it. The most important asset western Canada needs is people. If the Chinese want to become Canadian citizens, live in our communities, buy supplies, equipment, groceries, houses, etc., etc. then bring them on.
