SF3 So dont feel to good does it? I bet you wernt a dam bit concerned when you were grabbing all you could and to hell with the little guy well now the worm turns and some one a whole lott bigger is going to put the squese on you.
That said I do agree that forien Govmts shouldnt be allowed to buy up our country but who started this system we are living under.
When the consertives were elected in alta, one of the first things done was to repeal the comunal property laws that turned the Huterites loose well I couldnt compete with them so I was compeled to move to lower quality land that the huterites wouldnt be pusshing the prices up on, and I suspect it is the better land the chinese are after.Just rember it was those with BIG ideas that starved out the small farmer and set up the road for what you are getting, if there was still 1 section farmers it would be a lot harder to put large tracts together, but I am sure you needed 50 quarters to live so l;earen mandarin.

How does the small farmer fit in-between the big
farmers and the big big chinkermans?

JDGreen is your friend the manager of
the one farm north of me!
Yea yea its not about me I have enough
land to live on but its about local
community. This is about huge Foreign
owned farms in Canada, sending food back
home. Subsidy check comes from China. So
how is the Canadian farmer going to
compete. Answer is we are all going to
          loose.
As far as bringing in FERT and Chem.
WHERE DOES YOUR ROUNDUP GENERIC COME
FROM. Boat of fert unloaded in Vancouver
, shipped by rail to Saskatchewan then
rail cars loaded with grain shipped to
vancouver then load boat and send to
china. NO CARGIL NO GLENCORE NO CPS NO
DEERE NOTHING! HOW many jobs will be
          lost.
This is a huge problem. 400 mill vs the
rest of us, how well are we going to do
          going against CHINA!!!!!!!!!!

FCC better not be backing them at these prices.
This government is out of control! The taxpayer
cant foot the bill for all this immigrant crap.

Also dig a little deeper into some of
these so called Canadian land companies. I
thinks their share offering is from China
              not wealthy Canadians.

The thing that seems least likely about your theory
SF3 is why the Chinese would pay a $2/bu premium.
Doesn't fit they way they normally buy stuff - why
would they need to pay that much extra? If they were
prepared to pay a $2 premium why would they bother
owning the land as you imply they do? They could
save themselves the hassle and buy off the open
                market.

the chinese know that food is getting scarce, and is going to get a whole lot dearer pretty soon.
$2 premimium will be a good deal.
                        they are not stupid.
have they not manipulated grain markets downwards for 15 yrs to drive as many off the land as possible>?

You would think that if it wasvan issue of food
procurement, they would be contacting the grain
                          marketers, not so.

maybe the land bank was flawed
people not taking care of an asset they do not own. raising land prices
risk of gov.s changing the rules etc.
but maybe it would have prevented some of this. lessor of evils.

it has all been rejected for the free market.
it has been great for SF3 , the hutterites,Mennonites, oil money from Alberta. investor groups.
maybe not so great for those in the trenches, with 3 $ wheat 5.50 canola and poor capitol.

can not change the rules now, small medium farms will have to dig deep to compete .
work hard ,have lots of kids , stay out of divorce court, plan for a more modest retirement, so the next generation has a chance.

Should we not question whether one person requires 40 quarters of land (or much more). That only leaves room for x amounts of manager/farmers in your community, your province or your world.

And make no mistakes about it; when those few; large farmers become old or tired or disenchanted or depressed or sick or whatever......they will be the worst offenders at ignoring their neighbors or country; and will take the high dollar from anyone who offers.
And that will happen sooner with large farmers than ever happened with family farms which used to traditionally work the land in Western Canada.
No one should have any sympathy for the plight of any large farming operation. They will look after themselves (with rare exceptions).

SF3 The gov't knows but they didn't close the loophole the last sitting of legislature. Everyone is at the lake and nothing will be done till this fall. Should call everyone back in and get it done.
