Just got home from US. I am allowed to import
only 20 collective dollars of dairy products.
Includes butter, milk, cheese, yogurt etc. Butter
is $2.99 per pound in the USA.

Any dairy goods exceeding the $20.00 total is
subject to a tariff of 300% x excess dollars.

Its one turkey, two dozen eggs maximum or it won't be a bargain if you run across certain customs agents.

The size of the turkey and eggs apparently doesn't matter.

Nothing wrong with the picture. Thats protecting supply management for Canada.

On the other hand; just try to get some consumer bought fruits, vegetables and meat into the USA.

Then the Canadian rules seem quite reasonable.

I say those are all poor examples of free trade. The supply management system is just another such example.

I fully support the supply management system in Canada for the commodities that are currently covered.

If we don't want our farmers to prosper just eliminate supply management and watch the USA dominate and CONTROL our market.
