    Economic recovery

What exactly is economic recovery? We
throw the term around but in an economy
where personal and public debt are at
strained levels, how can an economy get
better if people can't buy more 'stuff'?

It will take many years for people to
start paying off debt and there aren't
enough credit card companies to keep the
    trend going.

The best we can do is hold on to what we
have, but to see growth? From where?

To me, economic recovery will appear
once the pain of credit deleveraging
subsides and the green economic shoots
re-appear. That day will come, but
unfortunately global markets are at just
the beginning of unwinding this credit
    mess.

An acceleration of Cdn personal and Cdn
    business bankruptcies unfortunetly lies
    ahead. Canada's debt is out-of-control.
And the oilsands are Canada's economic
engine. Yet not all of Canada's
    politicians seem to understand this.
    Good grief . . . .

But IMO buyers with 'cash' will be the
generators of new wealth and new
    attitudes toward managing money.
Businesses will be restarted with fresh
    owners and debt attitudes.

Remaining on life support of central
bank policy IMO is only delaying this
    situation and possibly actually making
    long-term recovery more difficult.

This is my vision of true economic
recovery. Voters have to stop electing
    politicians with the biggest lollipop
without any regard for debt and logical
money sense. Those days are likely fast
    coming to an end.

earol Please tell me how the oilsands are helping nME personaly. They have driven up prices exorbantly, now it is nice if you are one of the $1500/day men then you dont realy care how high gas goes or the plumer, electrician, mechanic so on as they all say they could get that much money in the oil patch so we nall pay, but we dont all have an oil related job.
As for all this money going into public coffers mabey but you still have to have a friend in govmt to access any of the wealth.?????

If making money is your goal in life then don't bitch and get a job in the patch. If you value other qualities of life then pursue them. You just might not have the same tax problem as those working in the oil sector.

The oilsands are helping those who extract the oil from them. Alberta gets practically NOTHING so far from their production.

The companies are mostly American and their profit goes south. We get the pollution and the waste.

Alberta is worse off now than it was when I was born. What went wrong?...too many PC governments?

I think the economy in Canada and the US
is just fine right now. The problem is
that the government needs over 4% growth
to fund government. Otherwise we will
have to cut back government. That would
be bad because...? I say stop all the
moaning over economic recovery lay off
some civil servants and be happy with the
way things are. I could be worse.

If other business was run like the oil patch your cabbage would be $27/ head and clothes who knows what. The oil patch is nothing more than an exclusive OLD BOYS CLUB Try getting down in the real world and look around there are more people than you.
