Seems like 2012 canola crop will be full bloom in next weeks heat wave!

Just on road today heading north from Regina to
Saskatoon and north, it seems that this years
canola crop looks average few awesome fields
lots thinner on today's drive. But all have some
good potential. Here is one problem. I see coming
with next weeks heat wave. Most canola will just
be starting to flower. Yes we have good subsoil
but can the plants go down fast enough. I think
next week is yield breaker or maker! We will see!

It seems that the canola crop is not going to be bigger than last year. Maybe that heat wave wil scare the traders into pushing prices to ration a bit.

But WTF do I know, other than my canola is farther behind than last year and won't yield as well either.

Wd so far its a good average to possibly
excellent but a week plus of heat likes
coming with the crop just flowering what
would you say could happen. FLOWER BLAST>

I've finally had a chance to walk some
fields in some of the better areas, that
is indicator #1 that this crop will
disappoint. You should not be able to
walk through canola in full bloom. Heat
next week will hit during full bloom,
strike #2. Strike #3 is with all the
rain the roots are shallow and the N is
deep. Even the good looking crops don't
have the mass to go much over 45 if you
ask me and the heat during flowering is
only going to pull that number down.

Heat wave, ummm. Depends on what forecast you are looking at. A few hot days, then chance of t-showers and showers with good warm mid summer temps 27 - 30. Hardly a heat wave. A heat wave would be 10 -14 days of 30 - 34 deg days. Don't see that in any forecast - some blasting will occur but should be minor unless forecast changes again , wich it may.

you guys are closer than I am but am always amazed
by how well some of the hybrids handle heat. Better
                      in many cases than cereals.

Will stick with a theme that western Canada will have
no trouble selling a 15 million tonne canola crop.
Delivery pressure off the combine may be a challenge
as you have highlighted Sk3. On a drive east of
Edmonton and most canola crops in more or less full
                      bloom.

Always usually some blast, but then more
                        flowers compensate if conditions warrant.
                        Canola's pretty good that way.
