Saskfarmer, you have 2 much time on your hands if you are burning fuel and time with that plow. Why not buy another section and put your time and effort into farming that.

Hedgehog,
How does your subsurface drainage work for silting up in the washed rock for the drainage chanel?
Do you make grid drainage chanels to distribute the subsurface under other areas in the same field if possible... to avoid water running off into neighbours fields?
Do you have inlet areas where the rock comes up to the surface to allow perculation into the drainage chanels?
Is there any good internet sights that discuss this kind of water management system?
Thanks Hedgehog, we are all looking for better ways to manage our water and use the rain water in the best way possible! Do you have collection reservoirs?
Cheers!

tom, i can put in a plastic pipe below the gravel at about 20 metre intervals and cross it without the pipe, just the gravel. you have to bring the gravel up to the cultivation depth, 8 inches in my case, or to the surface if you want.
the gravel will silt up eventually maybe 50yrs.
the law here forces your neighbour to accept water from you, he cant stop you. how do you upload pics to this site?

hedgehog,
If you want to e-mail me the pictures we can put them on a site and post them if you like!
If we have outlets on drainage tile the water needs to be approved by environment. We seldom have enough water... so we are looking for ways to reload the subsoil as much or more than to lower the water table.
Winter freeze up stops water movement as well... and if it were not so cold here for 4 months a year with very low evaporation...it would be a desert with only 8-12 inches of moisture many years!
