Farming isn't about crops and shiny
    machinery. Its about LAND value!

Having just spent ten days in Vancouver
and on the gulf islands, I must say here
that according to all those I visited
with, the area land and real estate
market is alive and well. 3 to 400
thousand an acre is still insane, even
if it has dropped a bit. 1 million
dollars for a 700 sq foot ancient home
in the downtown east side, is still
insane. So in spite of perhaps dropping
a bit, the market is alive and quite
healthy, just from what I heard from
those who live there. So don't panic,
money is not scarce out there. It is an
eye opener that culture, that region!

Over the years alot of companys and great ideas become white elephants due to technology. Will be a long time before farmland can be eliminated for the use of feeding the world. Farmland in Sask 3 or 4 years ago was a Great investment. Today maybe being looked at as a safe investment. If your so sure the price will drop then start selling land and buy back when price goes down. If you hold on it tells me your not sure about the future of land prices also and talking hot air.

Why would I sell. My land I'm having fun saving
cash for the next dip then I pounce. If it doesn't
happen cash is nice. But one thing if you need to
sell your land to retire you didn't make money
          when you farmed.

Bet you use a differant line when you go buy out a neighbour.I have bought land from farmers that need that money to retire. Do not consider them any less of a farmer.

S,F.3 I don't know what your opreration consists of but I don't think you have cattle buy the way you talk, because 2003 made it hard on cattlemen and I don't like you little bit of bragging about cash. FAILURE ISN'T FATAL, AND SUCCESS ISN'T PERMANENT I remeber the early 80's it will go down.

People sell their land for many reasons, not
having anything to do with failure. You can have
a pile of money and not be able to do a good job
at farming because of the work.

Some people live to farm, but some have other
interests also and farming can become a crap
shoot. You can talk when moisture is plentiful and
prices are good, but I can imagine the bawling if
you cant get the crop off in good shape.

Folks like Vancouver cousin they have a
                  beautiful climate and beautiful
surroundings ta live in, not ta mention
beautiful people and lottsa good stuff ta
do. Not grumpy mean spirited old sour
pussies, that whine and snivel at the drop
of grain prices that are so conservative,
they'd rather turn Right 3 times, than
Left to arrive at a destination.

Have seen alot of people my age leave the farm many years ago. Have been through the 80's with young family and feel successful just being able to do want I wamt to do. But things are differant this time with rise of land prices compared to the 80's. A big part is farming technology and weather patterns changing. Saskatchewan is much more productive now and needed alot of catch up as far as prices go.
