I agree it's not the nicest but take a drive a
majority of the canola crop out their isn't as nice. If
the stems are drying up it sclerotina. Did any
neighbour spray later in flowering in area what do
his fields look like. Let's all face it it 2012 will be
the year of the cereal in western Canada for yield.

Hard to tell from picture. Based on my experience, there will be no doubt at harvest if sclerotinia was present.
Caution, one year the number of sclerotia bodies in the grain sample nearly exceeded limits.

True when your swatting dead grey stems all over
then yes it's bad. Don't swath to early.

Don't be too hard on yourself farmaholic. Common practice in our area took time to evolve, with quite a few still not using any fungicides.
The sclerotinia decision is the worst one to make because you can't see it, and you spray pre-emptive. A 'leap' decision. Insurance?
A day after spraying peas a second time (maybe unneccessary), I found an old notebook listing prices at $3.54 for peas, $5.60 for canola. Sobering thought. "How would I do that now?"
After last year spraying wheat has become commonplace!?
          Good luck

Just coming back from bizmark, crops look
                    good,lots of corn,beans,flax,canola,winter
wheat, seems like the whole ball game has
changed down here but im not a 100percent sure
what it was like over a longer timeline.

At one piss break i shelled out some winter wheat
and the kernels didnt look that great but a no
trespassing sign,3 screaming kids and a very
annoyed wife stopped me from walking out into
the field for a better look.

And lots of great looking sun flowers.
