    Swathing Short Canola

We have some canola that has podded quite low
to the ground. Most we will be able to swath E-
W, but 2 fields run N-S. What is our best plan of
attack to swath? It is not tangled enough to
straight cut, nor do we have a pea auger on our
d****r head. Take our chances N-S, or swath on
    an angle?

If your swather is at least 25 feet it
doesn't matter what direction you swath.
If a stupid wind comes along it'll mess
    them up regardless.

I sprayed next to a field the other day i thought
looked a little short. Straight cutting is not scary if
your swath is at risk of blowing around In my
opinion. 2 years ago big swaths were blown
around and my dessicated stuff stayed. Secondly
i have both headers a flex and a d****r. Shorter
canola straight cut will work fantastic with a flex
locked up. I would definately dessicate with a
little glypho tho. Have had success in heavy
tangled stuff as well as in 2007 when it was just
pepper in the pods. The longer u let it stand in
this furnace the more you will get back at any
        rate.

We are trying to leave it as long as possible either
way. We are prepared to swath at night and on the
dew. It is a nice, even stand, just short. Variety is the
          problem I believe (RR72-65).

I would like to s/c some, but it doesn't seem to be
tangled and leaning enough to resist shattering from
the wind, especially with the heat. I am under the
impression that glyphosate wouldn't help desiccate
          RR.?.?

What are you planning, swath, straight, or a little of
both? I am amazed at how things have held on. I had
expected things to have turned a lot more today, but
after a little checking this afternoon, I feel like going
away for a few days so we don't run around every day
          seeing if things are ready.

If there is enough green left in there zee farmer I would use either reglone or Liberty to dessicate that stuff.

Lite or heavy I try to swath on the angle to the prevailing winds. That is usually NW--SE. Years past this method has worked for me.

Was talking to a person who phoned to see if he could use liberty as a desicant on peas. Rep said since they went to cheap chemical liberty can only be used on your acres signed with your tech agreement with them .
