Since harvest is started in some areas
here is a scale for crop in terms of
Bushels
10 is a 60 bushel crop or better.
9 is a 54
8 is a 48
7 is a 42
6 is a 36
5 is a 30
4 is a 24
and so on if your better 10 plus for
each 6 bushel.
Ok rain tapered off but humididty is out
of this world.
HRS is a 5 and has dropped dramitically
due to heavy rain previous week along
with high humidity. Leaf hopper has done
enormous damage. Straw will be a 10 but
crop is a 5, had potential two weeks
ago.
Durum continues its downward spiral. 5
this week due to leaf hopper and way to
much moisture all season. Sprayed with
full tilt and prosario but still have
issues.
Barley most are thinner than last year
due to water but still a 10 should have
been better than that.
Peas have sprayed and every spot the
water or mud was is dead with no peas.
Hills are a 9 nothing in low areas so
crop is a 4 to 5.
Oats their is now evidence that maybe
the leaf hopper has done something on
oats also. Aborted seeds on plants.
Again fields that were sprayed for
disease control.
Canola is a 4 to 5. Late fields if it
doesnt freeze till mid to late september
could be 10 plus but their are very few.
All early canola is a 4 or 3. Most
farmers sprayed headline and then
proline on their canola. No one did a
second app in our area. Lots of trash to
put through but between sclerotina
alterneria and leaf hopper and aster
yellow its not good.
Flax has issues with excess moisture as
always field are now starting to show
weed pressure.
Winter wheat harvest is under way with
very good yields and 12.5 to 13 protein.
Notes pea harvest will begin next week
if rain stays away. Its spitting as I
type this. Swathing of early Canola has
been tried but after two rounds guy quit
and went home. Two fields of very early
HRS are swath. Good luck to all with
harvest and Best in 2013.
