Ok am I the only one Sick of the Media Reports About this Bumper Crop!

Just back from South Dakota and once we
Sask every station was talking during
the news about how Canadian farmers are
going to get rich because of the
    American crop.
Over and over every half hour, Canada is
in a great place to leap ahead thanks to
    a USA drought.
WTF, nothing about the Shitty canola
crop. that it seems the early has every
thing that could happen to it. The late
is so late we need till the middle of
    September to even have seeds.
But what does all this BS do to the
    suppliers.
    1. Diesel just went up 9 cents a liter
why they say a refinery fire in LA. Yea
basically some one dumped a ash tray on
    the ground.
    2. Glyphos is going up to dollar more
    than last year.
    3. Fert their is talk it will climb and
    climb hard.
    4. Cert Seed will climb.
    5. ETC ETC ETC>
Again BS from the top on down.
Oh only really nice canola is couple
    miles East of Regina.
From Francis to South of Bismark not
very good at all. Some guys quit
swathing its going to be pepper.
Soy does look good south of Minot and
real good. Corn is nice to but has few
cobs on stem not one real big big cob.
    Freek of nature this year.
Wheat looks nice and is getting close to
    done harvest south.
I guess in Farming the media use good
news story to sell paper, Yet talk on
and on about bad things for every thing
    else.

The funny thing about the story is that no one can do math. 15 percent drowned out and 15 percent of what's left is lost to disease and its a larger crop than last year????? WTF! is wrong with people that are in the press.

You have lots of company on the "media reports". I
wonder how many stop their vehicles to talk with
farmers. Red River Valley. We had canola that
looked like a 50 plus crop. Yields are coming in
from crop insurance levels of 20 bus/ac to mid 30"s
as high. Heard as low as 15 with 17% dockage due
to fine seeds. Most of us struggling to get 30.
Cereal crops did ok. The heat got to it and yes
depends on where the rains went too. We were dry.
So I am wondering when I read record canola crops
where it is. By the way a big percentage of canola is
off the fields here. So yields are on record. If
soybeans do well here this fall - will see another
huge shift in acreage. Away from canola - next
      year.

Red our family has been growing canola
since Fricking Time began and are
getting sick of all the new Super duper
varieties that promis the fricking world
and cost as much as land use to yet
Yield the same as we got back in the
        late 60s to early 70s.
Soy Their is a quarter north of us and
Quarter south the one in the hills looks
really good lots of pods and starting to
dry down. Should be interesting. Note to
those who screw us on Canola. L150 is
not as good as previous varieties. Rest
are getting to 5440 levels but seem to
have new issues each year. We have one
that was shoulder height. Yet after the
2 plus two weeks ago its knee height.
Soy will replace the retarded cousin
soon in 5 to 10 years.

To be honest, I have scarcely left our
corner of the province for a while. Went
to B.C. in July. Crops were normal to
me, some good, some not. Just like
always. I thought some of the stuff west
or Regina towards Moose Jaw looked
pretty great. Saw a young lady in a
canola field up to her, ahem, and she
was being photographed by a dude at the
edge of the field, the canola looked
very good along that stretch to
          me.Thick, early, leaning, and tall.
Stuff in my immediate area is quite
good. The later stuff is being pushed
along by the finally warm, dry
conditions. Conditions I have waited for
for 7 years. The late stuff may very
well make it. The crop is variable here,
as I have said before, depending on
          seeding date mostly.

Honestly though, none of us has traveled
the entire grainbelt, and so I
personally can not make the call as to
the state of the prairie canola crop.
What I do know, is that many are saying
their areas suck. That is what makes me
deliberate more. In a nutshell, I would
say an average crop is on the way
overall. Yes, the farmers are making a
killing is a bit much, for one year in 5
with a half decent crop does not
suddenly propel those of us who have
struggled with weather for years, over
some invisible bar of excellence. We
need a few more years to catch up. Those
          reports are silly indeed.

Always RECORD yields and prices so why when the teachers or nurses or so on get 3,4,5% they dont say record wages ?

Yup, I'm sick of it too. L150 is a disaster again. I can get 5440 this week if I jump on it, but it would be old, tired seed, wouldn't it. There is no new seed production of 5440 that I know of. If I knew the seed would be good, I'd speak for a half section of it right now.
We don't need new higher yielding canolas. We need consistency of yield. Why the hell don't the life science companies listen?
