Breaking old news...Provincial Hwy 361 tender

    http://rmofbrowning.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/RM-July-4-2012-Minutes.pdf

A full month ago apparently there was a tender opening for part of the Highway 361 being built by the RM's of Browning and Moose Creek. It is noow referred to as 9 miles; but I guess that at what was once estimated as about a million dollars a mile; it doesn't much matter whether it really is 13.6 km. or 8 miles or whatever.

Anyone heard one word about what the bid was; or whether it was accepted.
There were some stakes up last weekend; and a couple of Cats and a trackhoe parked in the ditches.

Probably won't know till Sept. when Aug. minutes are adopted & made public. That project links highway 39 to 9 & is built to primary weight specs. Previous to the project RM's Benson & Browing were locked in to secondary weights.

Where do you get your "public" council minutes without paying an arm and a leg and being seem that you are "on the back of council".

Moose Creek has a full web site; but last years road bans are still in effect according to the municipalities official portal. The annual golf tournament gets updated; but no new minutes posted for over a year. But council argues in court that all such information is fully available. Too bad no one ever checks to see exactly what price you will pay and what contortions they will put you through. It just about fair to say that absolutely no one has ever bothered with the nuisance of such an exercise.

And how do you get any details without being seen as trying to be even more intrusive.

What are the acceptable rates for council member remuneration. I have heard council members reporting that instances of their peers billing for more than 40,000 per annum. And the word is out that wanna be reeves in a different RM are over $30,000 last year. This is contagious; and now every other councillor is talking about the hard work; and being paid commensurate with what they know they are worth. With blank cheques and the ability to make endless work and bill for even attending elections and referendums as what was reprted as "security"; this is well out of control.
Just want to say againg that everyone on council can theortetically get deep into the trough and public purse. In the case of the May 2, 2011 referendum "security" force incident there were two councillors being paid to act as the full equivalent of police officers. Whether they were needed; or anywhere appointed using the proper procedure through the "Local Government Elections Act" will apparently never be investigated.

        holy cow.
Whatr RM's are paying that to councillors? I don't know of any around. I do know the local council is
around $150.00 per day when your on the job. Many are alot less. It translated to a few thousand a year, way under $10 grand. Thats going to meetings, looking after stuff in their division. i know at our spring ratepayers supper stuff like that would come up in a hurry if a councillor or reeve was taking that much home.

You are kidding about actual spring ratepayers meetings, aren't you. Councils here feel that there no one desires such a meeting. Someone might actually use a micropne to "tear a strip off council". Ergo there will never be another such public meeting.

Besides council members (and selected others); dine behind locked doors before every monthly council meeting. We don't want them to overeat at the public troughs do we.

I will do some research about council remuneration; when the short form of the auditors statement comes out with the tax notices. The RM's are a lttle slow getting them out this year. When the data is available for several RM's in SE Sask I'll post it for sure.

These elected officials are on record that they intend to be well paid. I think along the lines of CEO's of other organizations and businesses that they have heard of; is the direction the council members are headed.

In the old old days is no desirea
