canola sucks, it really really sucks

warning to all that have not combined any
canola yet in east central deal, includes AGes.
Stay out of the field and don't ruin your
    weekend by starting tomorrow.(if u didn't get
rained out) cause it sucks. I was fooled.
Whatever you thought your canola might go but
were to humble to say it out loud even at 3 in
the morning alone in the swather, cut it in half
and add 7. That will be your yield boys. It's
worked on the first 8 fields.
By the way that is also the formula to figure out
if a girl is too young for you. They must be older
than half your age plus 7.LOL!!! Or equal to, I
was pushing the limits 9 years ago

see you all on the other side!!!

telling the city people its huge.
      Combine yield monitors don't lie.

Started to combine our Sclerotinia Shit yesterday hoping to keep it from blowing around in the wind, yield is around 15 bu/ac, maybe a bit higher but not much. Scary.

you have been further ahead all year and drier.
like the posters above i think we may be in for a shock (it had better be 20$). have not cut the best stuff yet though.

Swathed the last three days, what looked like 40bus might make 15bus. Crop is crap, twisted dying weak garbage. Allot of canola acres in around here and all early seeded looks bad. some late crop looks good but just finnished blooming.

Just swathing last half of it. Looks ok, stuff sprayed looks v good. Some bug dmage though, lygus and berthas. Anything not spryed for sclro is the same as what all posters are saying on here - shitty.

Again I will ask. Firstly though, sorry
about the poor results, that sure sucks.
But I need to ask, is it a surprise?
Because as I said before, I personally
see no unfilled pods, etc. So Prior to
swathing, is anyone seeing that the
crops are poor? Mine I know are poor to
fair already. Some looks like 20, real
late stuff could be excellent, but I am
surprised to hear these results. GRRRR.
                  SOrry for you all.

Yes, heat, and moisture were a big issue this year. But how many of these yield drops are because of bad crop rotations? When it first came out the "experts" told us 1 yr in 4.

seriously it's really bad. I've lost all confidence
with canola for the future. corn and beans next
                      year?
Drew says this weather pattern till 2018!!!

I heard and stated the drew forecast before. It looks bad for us in the wet areas, till 2018. Most will quit I fear.

Our canola is total crap after 20" in several flood events early in season.
Poorest on hills with lower organic matter, best on peat areas.
Diseased, flat on the ground after 2 100kph wind storms in July. Bitch to swath, wait for windy days!
Probably yield starts with a 1.

Heard an interesting theory about that day of
110km/h wind we had across sask this spring,
and that is the canola got dirt blasted by the
wind and have a more susceptible spot for
disease to start from. It seems a little out there
but what other variable exists. We've had 2
years of the same weather before this as far as
                          humidity, in our area anyway.
Im just looking for answers to convince myself
that I haven't just been brain washed by "the
industry" into continuing the 50% rotation for
                          next year.

Im starting to wonder if 2012 will be the last year
we see farmers pushing rotations to try and
increase canola acres on there respective
farms.you have to agree with Charlie's comments
on how in the past despite what farmers said
about seed prices and fertilizer they continued to
increase acres. However I think this is maybe the
year that will break us of those habits.even 15$ a
bushel at say 20-25 bushels isn't really exciting.

It wasn't the wind, heavy rain, too hot, etc that
diseased the crops. It's was about 6 weeks of
heavy, dripping dew every night. No question the
wettest evenings, for the most days in the last
twenty years. the lowest, or calm winds during
the days causing extended periods of very high
                              humidity for just too long.
