Strangely Quiet at the CWB

I think the gravity deck might take it out this year.
Good winter project since won't have much for my
truckers to do. Also another winter project is
getting my old tandem running. My boys could
learn something. It's a gas but for the cleaning
plant it worked fine. Hm see you can find projects
if you look.

ALBERTAFARMER4: I still OWN a farm and I still LIVE on a farm. My forebears for generations have been farmers. Government policy such as that put forth by Harper and Ritz interest me as they have a direct effect on the profitability and viability of farming.
If you have an opinion express it and I bloody well will express mine. It that clear enough?

My landlords claim to to 'farm' as well and they would have kept status quo as well. I respect their right to an opinion just not the opinion itself.

Question for both: The same management team is in place. The same programs are available to us. They no longer have free access to all western inventory, thats all.
Are you suggesting that under the table the govt is hamstringing them?
You don't trust the govt so you wont support the cwb at all??
OR. Once the wall came down the emporerer had no clothes??
IF you refuse to support it now;
not only was your attitude a large part of it's downfall yesterday, but your sealing it's fate tommorrow.

Some stuff I have seen (a little dated) suggested that the new CWB has been one of the most active organizations contacting farmers and talking about their programs. Their website (for those who look) has good solid information. Like everyone else, the CWB will key in on stakeholders (farmer and grain handlers) that bring the grain up the driveway to their organization.

Little flurries of activity/debate on Agriville but mostly quiet from my point of view in other places. Crabbiness with canola has replaced the CWB as the topic of debate here. If anything, I am sensing a flow back to cereal acres next year as farmers try to bring their rotations back into reality. An opportunity for everyone in the supply chain to gear for a new reality.

Hopperbin: Don't confuse the old Canadian Wheat Board with the new CWB...different animal with some of the same spots. The new one is a totally government controlled hybrid and very likely a not very hardy one. Genetically programmed to disintegrate within five years or less.

Just curious what elements of current programs are government controlled. To the extent that initial payments are guaranteed, maybe yes but other things are pretty much the same as before.

The CWB remains as an alternative for farmers that choose to use its services. I don't have any problem in helping farmers become knowledgeable about their programs and encouraging them in their business/marketing plan.

Wilagro, the only difference is the new CWB now
has to actually prove the "premium" prices it
always said it had.  It was a government entity
before, with the the power to discount the price to
whoever they wanted, and the legislated power to
still be able to still extract cheap grain from
unwilling farmers, or farmers ignorant of what was
being done to them.  

Personally I like the new price transparancy that
competition for our grain brings.  There's no more
lies about how we could never get the "premium
U. S. price" because American farmers would
stop our trucks at the border.  When the price
discounting monopsony on our grain ended, that
"premium" came here.

You're right about one thing: the new CWB won't
survive competing on price if they keep operating
the way they did. We are no longer forced to
accept any more discount prices.  The old CWB's
former buyers will be the only ones upset about
their loss of the single desk discounts on our
wheat.
