There's a way more to it than just running or having excess time on your hands. My clock has the same 24 hours as anyone else's and it is quite presumptuous for anyone to think that another must devote portions of their time to any cause whatever. And while others may have nothing to fill their waking hours; that has never been a personal problem. And while others prefer to remain uninformed and maybe even ignorant of the significance of tyranny and loss of democratic rights; perhaps some are more observant and critical.
Then there is the matter of likelihood of electoral success. I've kept track of the numerous calls on this site to get nomination papers submitted. And maybe there was only one comment that indicated the writers support for a platform and alternate ideas that a person such as myself has put forth as some potential changes and improvements.
There still remains the barriers of family and close friend ties within a pool of voters that is just too small within a Sask municipal division. Is the average voter capable of over riding their self interests, instincts and habits; and coming to a rational decision based on merit and public good?

And here's another potential obstacle for some of you/us/everyone.

"If your municipality has passed a bylaw requiring candidates to submit a criminal record check it must be filed with the nomination paper." That quote is from the Municipal Affairs Provincial government web site.

That zinger can apply to you if you go to an old folks home to visit some old pioneers you once knew, or a hospital, or helping out with coaching a team of kids etc. etc. Those checks aren't approved instantaneously; and as awho knows what can come out an RM reporting you to the RCMP. And what will be done with that criminal record check? You think your average council members even knows what a Code of Conduct; much less Ethics; means, or nepotism or attending a polling station as a paid "security" agent? That one needs to be pursued further; and I doubt if it is too late . If proven, surely that is the kind of matter that would show up on an a check such as mentioned above.
And don't try to vote in your own election this yeas without having suitable identification. You will be turned away.

Does anyone ask what this world is coming to?. In some ways a person should be very glad that they can not be accused of being a part of any government.
However we are all guilty of allowing these impositions on personal freedoms to gain their footholds.

And that is how dirty rotten and corrupt politics and democracy can become.
But few even have a comment or become involved even enogh to know what is happening.

Local government has become basically ignored; until you are singled out as by a council which wishes to treat your similar circumstance differently than they have ruled on themselves; their family and those with whom they are currently on friendly terms.
