    Price predictions

Any body have any predictions where the prices
are going from now until July 2013.

I am thinking higher for most commodities.

    Red Lentils 25 cents
    Larger Green Lentils 28 cents
    yellow Peas $10
    green Peas $12
    Maple Peas $12
    canola $16.50
    durum $11
    wheat $10
    barley $6
    canary seed 30 cents

Just some WAG what do others think.

We are about 3/4 done harvest and crops pretty
    good overall in SW Sask.

Lentils Red and green 30-38 bu acre
    durum 30-50
    canola 32

Have our canary seed and barley left to combine
yet. Looks like the best canary seed crop since
we have been growing it. i hope it is as good as
it looks. Have the new Variety Bastia seeded this
    year.

My dad and our highered man did a great job
when i was gone for 10 weeks. It is sure nice to
    be back home.

Glad to hear you finally made it back. I have another
cousin who is still over there adopting a girl. I hope
things worked out well for you guys in the end.

I think your Lentil numbers are out to lunch. The
buyer I regularly talk to has been having grief
moving greens all year. The fall of the rupee(sp) and
the rise of the Can$ has put a damper on sales to
India. I don't like my prospects for moving much
    new crop before 2013.

If we still had the wheat board Not this Castrated Ritz version we could see $10 durum.
I think Now most guys won't average $8.50

Green Lentils-i would pretty much agree to eat my pants if we see 25 cents even this year for a #2. Canada supplies the world for green lentils, so our supplies here determine price. Crop quality is generally good and acres were up over 2011 (yield in some areas is poor i get that). Add in significant carryover from 2011 and cant imagine a senerio where prices advance much from the low 20 cent range. I think it will be a victory if it stays flat at 20 cents/lb for #2.

Reds is anybodies guess as need crop failure in Indian harvest in FEb/MArch (20 cent reds a month ago was based on lower Kariff crop rains, which is the supply of stored soil moisture for the lentil crop planted in Nov (RAbi crop), harvest in FEb, the return of normal monsoon is the reason it is dropping off last couple weeks) but the moonsons returned closer to average so that doesnt help. OUr only shot at higher red value is then Turkey crop problems with their harvest in June.

Canary will need better economic conditions in certain areas of world to see a big price response but has a way better chance of higher values then lentils.

THe one i am wrestling most with is durum. I understand that 30% carryover is likely in Canada so does not seem that bullish. Please a new system with less market focus by the players (takes time to build a book) means likely less product gets sold in the first year. Anyone got any comments on this?

Actually if anyone else would like to express the highest canary yield would be interesting. We had net of 41 bushels on a quarter

Best year we averaged 33 across all our acres. Last year was probably 25. THis year might be more like 22. No rain in July, all years on lentil stubble. SW Sask.

I'll take jag's numbers with the decimal moved one
                        space right.
