mbratrud I am guessing the trade to the 8230 was very close to 200,000 and your neighbour is shy to admit that also. So the trade to the jd would be 270,000 wow

Cost to us to trade to new loaded up 2013 8230s
from 2 year old 8120s( 600 hrs) is roughly
42000/year. Still waiting for price on s680 but after
demo, don't really care to buy one. Two many
options that are missing which are standard
features on the caseih. Ran Deere for 28 years
prior to the 8120s

Highwayman double check if it is a 2013 or 2012 big difference in the engine emissions part 2013 should be tier 4. My local dealer give me a price and he called a 2012 a 2013.
That 2013 when sold may be considered a 2012 when resold. Your quote sounds too cheap actually. Who are you dealing with, I may want to check there.

Hopper 2012 & 2013 models are both tier 4
engines and use DEF. 2013 models have other
changes coming including a new cab. Models we
were quoted we're 2013s and we were quoted on
4 pieces. Youngs Equipment.

mbratrud, Hopperbin, highwayman,
as owner/operators, do you view the newer engines in combines using DEF, positive &/or worth while, something to move on, and bring into your operation? or do you view those engines as something to hold off on, see if they prove themselves and/or milk the hours out of the old one till you have to trade?

Have a friend that is operating 9230's
this year vs 9120's last year he says
the fuel savings is huge. And Power to
burn. Our fuel bill for combining this
year will be close to 3 bucks an acre.
From what I understand that could be
trimmed by 15 percent. Any others heard
this?

Seeing the same thing in the new Massey/challenger. The new tier 4 Sissu is burning 3 gal/hr less with way more power.
6 cyl compared to the new 7 cyl though. Both rated about the same power.
Ran the new class 7 against a 4 year old class 8 A85. The new class 7 has more jam than even the class 8 and burns less fuel to boot.

Hopper, for that hour a day that
conditions are perfect i don't think
that 8120 can be beat. The trouble comes
when the wheat is hard to thresh and you
have to cinch the rotor down and wind
it out your capacity is gone. Or on
canola once it dries up in the afternoon
and slowing down from 5mph to 4mph puts
and extra 3bpa in the tank. These new
machines can put a alot of crop through,
it's a different story putting it in the
bin.

We only have one piece of equipment running DEF right now and that is a Patriot 4430 sprayer. After getting used to the viper controller, love the sprayer. We have used about 250 litres of DEF for the whole season. One tank of def for every 4 1/2 tanks of fuel. Power to spare and runs very clean. After 350 hours and 40000 acres you could lick the exhaust pipe. Best thing about the diesel exhaust treatment method is that your engine is tuned for performance rather than emissions.
