    Headline and Flax....

Our flax was seeded in the last days of May and first couple of days of June(over 110 days). We sprayed it with headline and it seems to keep it green(the straw anyway) a long time. We sprayed a liter of glyphosate a week ago and the straw is still not dry, grain tests about 8.7 with some uncured seeds in the sample. We intended to straight-cut it. And we haven't been burning flax straw for afew years now but it doesn't come out the back of the MAV chopper very fine with it being so green(unsure how the Bourgault 3320 will handle it--next year will be the first year with it for us). Everyone remember the wind horror stories earlier this year? I really don't want to take that chance. Moral of the story: Patience is a virtue. I've never been accused of being virtuous before!!

farmaholic, exactly the same story here, although we sprayed 2wks ago w/ 420g rather than the 356g, SESK. The frost the last two nights have hepled more to ripen the straw than the glyphosate. Want to get'er done this week as everything else was done two weeks ago.

Yes you are right Freewheat but that is like letting canola in the swath hoping green count will come down when the moisture is less than 7 percent. Wind is my nemisis and I saw bolls tore off plants with heavy winds. I think the wind knows how much I hate it and I can't take that chance!!
