Rather than looking over the fence with envy or disdain for another fellow producer no matter how he or she has achieved their success,I have found much can be learned from our neighbors, what ever their management style. We are very thankful for what we have achieved and we are happy for are friends and neighbors that have prospered as well. Things aren't always what they seem on the surface grasshopper.

Its seems that some of the older generation that have gone through hard times automatically think that the young ones should to. The young farmers i know all say this. Weather they inherited wealth or not success causes jealousy in others. Its a disease. I baught everything i have and and i have even been told that i must of got it given to me. I have been farming for 28 years.

I agree with the last 2 posts. I had some help starting out but not in the form of gifts mostly in the form of my parents allowing me to use their assets for security for loans to expand the farm. Mostly we have gotten ahead by making good decisions and working together as a team to a common goal.

And I agree there is a very large amount of jealousy towards successful operators.

If somebody is successful they either had it given to them or they stole it from somebody.

Some people just aren't good at facing the facts all the little things make a big difference.

I have a theory: Some people can't stand prosperity, especially when it belongs to someone else. You are absolutely right highwayman, Failure or success, whether it is yours or other peoples, are learning opportunities.

Is there a difference between success and greed? In a good cropping area, how much land is needed to be successful? The answere is probably different for everyone. How much is enough?

Do not think there is a high number of auction sales for Ritchie. After all this takes in alot of area and it is natural to have a % of farmers packing in in every year. Have not seen the Kramer book though.
