To spray or not to spray?

Temps not too warm today and pretty good frost next few days should a guy spray post harvest or not? Kinda iffy to wait til after because if frost too heavy plants may be done.

Rider; The last 240 acres of durum stubble(peas next year) I sprayed for some thistles(some stems without leaves, some with sick ones and some decent ones), I think was a waste of time. If glyphosate was $8.00 plus a liter I wouldn't have even thought about it. I think we need to use the product responsibly and not base the decision based on price alone.

I think I may have said too much....

What kind of moisture have you gotten lately.
South of regina we have been dry since last frost
so Im pretty sure glyphosate won't do anything
      now.

Wet muck a couple of inches down, here.
All post harvest sprayed up to 2 weeks ago. Thistles and dandelions look like shit, awe too bad you sob's.
Could work till yesterday, after minus 5, risky, but so cheap.

Thanks for the opinions we are dry as a fart here too at least the top few inches, below is lots of moisture so not sure what the heck to do. I wanted to clean it up for peas also.

If thistle and dandelion are your main weed problems, i would still do it. If mostly winter anualls, i would stay a away from it. I have had great luck spraying even after a few hard frosts. Its way cheaper and more effective to get them noy IMO.

If any sow or Canada thistle, they are MUCH easier to kill now than in the spring. Quack as well if still any green leaves on these plants.

Agreed with the majority. Now is the time to
apply glyphosate. On hard to kill weeds.
Otherwise you will be spending heavy on some
other racy chemical to get lacluster results next
                season.

We're going to loose next week it looks real cold .
I got down to 8 left. Thistles maybe if it gets above
10 for a couple days and doesn't freeze at night.
Quack foxtail. That boat has sailed.

I don't agree with most here, quack, foxtail, any type of thisle and dandelion need spraying pre harvest for total control, post harvest will get partial control and the more frosts the less control. Winter anuals on the other hand become quite frost tollerant and keep growing at low temps even sub zero some germinate after a pre harvest application, so I would do it for the winter anual control up to end of Oct. Tuff to control them in the spring. And if you think you don't see any now you will in the spring if unsprayed.

Winter annuals would love a snow right now and grow under the snow.

Rider anyone that grows peas here without a preharvest application the year before has a complete mess at harvest time.

Now there is some optimism, someone talking about growing peas, good on ya! And fwiw I still plan on finishing up my fall spraying.

I agree with you Hopper regarding perennials. Riders, if they aren't that bad and can stand to look at them poking out above your peas, spray them preharvest and you will probably be alot happier with the results. In the fields we regloned(keeping for seed) and then sprayed the thistle regrowth(with glyphosate), the results will be questionable. It is quite dry here and the regrowth wasn't spectacular, they were there but the target was quite small. What ever you decide--good luck.
