When is best time to buy fertilizer before year end?

We will likely buy some fertilizer before year end.

Sounds like some good deals out there now, anyone think the prices will go up as we get closer to Dec 31?

Buy now or wait a little longer?

I would like to hear how you guys approach this.

Sorry about that. Myself I have never bought fert at this time of year. And since use anhydrous it is not typically a been bad to wait till the end dec. price.

As for myself I have grain inventory and not sure to sell before year end so I am happy to purchase fert on Jan 1 so as to put as much income into 2012 as possible, and have to admit that the suppliers have been able to delay payment till feb or mar for the same price the last few years. Don't believe the year end savings deal it does not exist.

For those of you that buy and store agrium's product for free, I hope you are getting a large discount.

By moving product out of their warehouses they feel they can continue to gouge farmers.

46 should be at 400 a tonne.

But hey, if you like doing agrium and mosaic favours while keeping the price up good on you.

The BS that american farmers are going to buy huge amounts of fertilizer is a snake oil salesman gimic. They have over half of there fertilizer in the ground because their crops didn't grow in the drought.

I do agree with Bucket its BS that the USA
farmer is going to go hog wild on Fert.
Why in the 1984 to 1988 drought years did
every soil test show that we weren't using
up our fertilizer. But the USA according
to some experts has none left in the soil.

The US yields are based on harvested land, not the millions of acres disced under a month ago.

All the US statistics are based on harvested land. The zero yields don't count and there are plenty of them.

There are plenty of acres zeroed out and I would expect the fertilizer is still there.

But hey, maybe you have never seen a drought and don't realize fertilizer can't disappear without water and plant material.

Agree that yes am probably doing agrium or who ever a favor but figure i am going to bend over at some point anyway, might as well now i guess. Lots of problem i hear with product comming up the mississippi, and if the us doesn't get enough product on this fall is going to give manufactures great reasons to screw farmers over even further.

had a talk with an agrium official last
weekend about the price of 46-0-0 and
where it is headed.He said simply put,
their priceing of N will follow the price
of a tonne of canola...Not hard to
follow. We will see if he is right....
Also asked if U.S. drought would affect
supplies used next year.He said past
droughts have not reduced amount used by
U.S. farmers the following year.
