Feed barley information from a source.
Current international feed barley prices about USD $245 to $250 FOB (Black Sea/EU). Loaded boat exporters port. Assuming $75/tonne costs to move from an elevator to loaded vessel, that puts an Alberta elevator price at around $175/tonne if a sale were to be done. Indications that some Japanese business has been done at these levels. Ukraine and Brazilian corn prices closer to $200/tonne or a substantial discount to barley.
Need to watch US corn futures carefully. $4.75/bu corn plus $1 basis (may come down in new crop) puts landed Lethbridge prices at about Cdn $230/tonne. Push corn to approaching $4/bu and we will have landed Lethbridge corn close to $200/tonne.
Feed wheat availability in western Canada an unknown until harvest is done. Black Sea feed wheat in the USD $225 to $230/tonne range. As indicated, expensive relative to non US corn. Corn has begun the painfull process of buying back demand. A more abundant corn supply will impact all crops including wheat.
