    fyi aust crop predicitions

Quick snapshot of today’s ABARE report with further analysis to follow:
    - Australian wheat crop estimated at 24.47 million tonnes, down almost 1mmt from the June estimate of 25.4mmt.
    - Cuts were made across all states bar South Australia. WA production was slashed 1.5mmt to 7.33m, NSW (-0.4m to 7.2m), Victoria (-0.1m to 2.95m) and Queensland (-0.1m to 1.7m). These cuts were partially offset by an increase in South Australia of 1.1mmt to 5.2mmt, the largest crop since 2009/10 and a 43% increase from 2012/13.
    - Barley production estimated at 7.67mmt, up 270kmt from the June report. The increase was due to SA where the crop was pegged at 2.3mmt, up 350k from the previous report. NSW was cut 50kmt to 1.28m, VIC 1.78mmt ( 30kmt), QLD 160kmt (-7kmt) and WA was cut by 80kmt to 2.11mmt. The changes were certainly not as drastic in the barley side compared with wheat.
    - Canola production was estimated at 3.3mmt, up around 100kmt from the June report. The upward adjustment was largely due to SA (0.1mmt), with small revisions made to other states. SA production is now estimated at 429,000t.
    - Sorghum plantings are forecast to rise by 12% this coming season, although current dry conditions may yet limit the rise. The area forecast to be planted to cotton and rice are expected to fall. Production of sorghum has been estimated at 2mmt, using average yields.
