Western farmers are continuing to fight the demise of the Canadian Wheat Board.
Last week, Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board filed a legal brief with the Federal Court of Canada in a class-action lawsuit seeking $17 billion in compensation.
The matter will be heard in Ottawa Oct. 23.
The farmers' latest case attempts to prove that, counter to the 2012 legislation, grain producers had a financial interest in the assets of the CWB.
"The key concept here is fairness. Producers paid to build up the CWB and never got anything when government tore it down," organization lawyer Anders Bruun said.
