There is no doubt farming on the prairies is a very
lucrative business these days. Farmers have
created incredible wealth. Ag is booming and we
are experiencing very exciting times. But it's quite
concerning to see the arrogance displayed by
some farmers these days.
Just keeping in mind that humility will help you to
succeed and arrogance may lead to failure.
We need to challenge the science rather then
blindly defend it. Challenging the science will help
to keep it honest and accountable. With billions of
dollars in profit driving science, it inherently loses
some objectivity.
It's not pure objective science. That's been proven
over and over again.
Look no further then Monsanto being in back
pocket of the US Government and their attempt to
pay off Canadian officials to try and forces BGH
into our dairy. And Syngentas debacle with
Atrizine. The list goes on and on.
Some Governments are corrupt, some Regulatory
Systems are corrupt and some companies are
corrupt.
Just because "science" (term is abused in a very
broad sense) deems something safe doesn't
mean people don't have the right to refuse it
based on caution.
Time to stop bashing concerned consumers and
either convince them that a practice such as
desication is completely safe (which I believe to
be impossible) or ban the practice due to
consumer concerns. Calling them ignorant, daft
and kooks doesn't do anything for the industry.
