Trying to explain what this year's record crop in a meaningfull way for city folk. Alberta produced about 27 MMT of crop in 2013. That is about 7 tonnes of per Albertan (4 million population). 1 tonne of grain takes about 1.5 cubic metres of space (hopefully my math is right) for grains (realize wheat will be smaller and barley bigger). Trying to relate this to some of size like football fields or something. How do you explain the volume of what crop agriculture in western Canada produces relative to our population?
