    Grain prices- Organic and conventional.

I am having trouble coming to terms with all the bashing of Organic farming on Agriville the last while. Everyone is complaining about the prices of their crops dropping while the inputs are rising, I was in that same situation in the 90’s but the only difference was I did something about it,I decided to try Organic which turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I now don’t have to worry about farming half the country, fertilizer bills or chemical bills. My machinery is older and paid for but gets the job done ,Bills are paid, I have a nice warm house ,good vehicles and lots of food in the freezer ,great wife and kids, what more do I need! I think the Organic farmer is getting paid for their crop what it is worth like it or not. There is no way that conventional wheat should be 4.50 a bushel - it should be 12 or higher; but no, the end users pay us peanuts and what do we do? produce more and more bushels so we can brag at the coffee shop how well our crops did! Yesterday I had a phone call from a buyer looking for organic wheat they were willing to pay $22 a bushel . I think everyone can make a living on those prices; big farmer, small farmer, organic or conventional! We have to work together as grain growers and pressure the dealers, and suppliers of our trade with what we need, not what they want us to have. We need to think for ourselves and our children coming up behind us because we know the cycles of this industry and how the economy affects us . I myself have no scientific proof that organic is any better or any worse I just know that my wheat is truly organic and that the buyers are willing to pay well for it! As they should for all crops.
